Our Florida & New Jersey Customers

Factors that Impact Cost

Distance is the biggest cost driver on this route, but the I-95 corridor has high carrier traffic, which helps keep prices competitive compared to less-traveled routes.

Tips and Tricks to Save

Avoid shipping during peak snowbird season (March–May) and choose a flexible 5-day pickup window to unlock the best rates and fastest carrier availability.

How Car Shipping Works

The process is straightforward: lock in your price, get matched with a vetted carrier, complete a vehicle inspection at pickup in Florida, and your car is delivered door-to-door in New Jersey in as little as 1–4 days.

State Insights

Once your car arrives in New Jersey, you have 60 days to register it with the MVC — and unlike Florida, New Jersey requires both an emissions test and a safety inspection at registration.

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

First time customer here. I needed to ship my Tundra from Florida to New Jersey and was super worried about finding a reputable company to move it. I read the reviews for Sherpa and I am glad I decided to go with them. They stayed in close contact with me about what to expect, when they were picking up, and when they were arriving. The driver was very friendly and took very good care of my truck. They left central Florida on Monday late afternoon and I had the truck on Wednesday at noon. Seriously, if you find yourself reading this review and considering whether to choose them, do it.

I recently used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport my car from Florida to New Jersey. I was very impressed with the level of service I received. Shane was professional and knowledgeable. He talked me through the process and made me feel more confident. They picked the car up on Wednesday afternoon and delivered it to NJ on Friday afternoon in perfect condition. The customer service was also excellent. Brittany called me to again take me through what would happen and reassure me. I would highly recommend this company.

I reached out to Sherpa to handle the logistics of moving my vehicle from FL to NJ. First time using a vehicle transport and they answered all my questions and I had many. They are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. I requested door to door service since dropping the vehicle off and picking it up at a lot was not something I could do. I had some personal items in the back and it arrived exactly how it was stored. The communication was great and they made sure the process was clear all the way to delivery. It was a very positive experience especially being my first time doing this. I would definitely use them again.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Florida to New Jersey Shipping Prices

Distance

Florida to New Jersey spans roughly 1,200 miles. That’s a long haul, and distance is the biggest price driver. The more miles a carrier travels, the higher your shipping cost.

Route

Good news — this route runs almost entirely along I-95, one of the busiest and most carrier-friendly highways in the country. High carrier traffic on this corridor helps keep prices competitive.

Season

Winter is peak season for this route. Snowbirds heading back north in spring drive up demand fast. If you can ship in late summer or early fall, you’ll likely find better rates and faster pickup times.

Vehicle Type

Shipping a standard sedan is the most affordable option. Larger SUVs and trucks take up more trailer space, add weight, and burn more fuel. Some carriers can’t accommodate oversized vehicles, which limits options and raises prices.

Traffic Considerations

I-95 gets brutally congested during holidays and spring break. Carriers avoid these windows when possible. Shipping outside of major travel weeks means fewer delays, faster delivery, and sometimes lower costs.

Carrier Availability

The Florida-to-New Jersey route is well-traveled, so carriers are usually available. However, during peak snowbird season — March through May — demand spikes. Book early to lock in your preferred dates and avoid waiting weeks for pickup.

Open vs Enclosed

Most vehicles ship just fine on an open trailer, and it’s the more affordable choice. If you’re moving a luxury car, classic, or exotic vehicle, an enclosed trailer offers extra protection and peace of mind — at a higher price.

Population Density

Delivering to dense areas like Jersey City or Hoboken costs more than suburban drop-offs. Tight streets make maneuvering large trailers difficult. Consider coordinating delivery to a nearby suburb — it can save money and speed up the process.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping during the off-season can lower your costs significantly. Snowbird season drives up demand and prices. Shifting your shipment by even a few weeks outside peak periods can lead to noticeable savings.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Choosing a five-day window for pickup and delivery gives carriers more scheduling options. That flexibility often translates to lower rates, since carriers can optimize their routes and fill trailer space more efficiently.

Hub City Advantages

Carriers prefer routes along major highways. Choosing a pickup or drop-off location near a highway hub in Florida or New Jersey increases your carrier options and drives down costs through more competitive pricing.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed ones and work well for most vehicles. If you’re shipping a standard car, open transport is a smart way to save. Reserve enclosed trailers for luxury or classic cars.

HOW IT WORKS

How does Car Shipping from Florida to New Jersey Work?

Picturesque view of New Jersey

Florida to New Jersey car shipping is a popular interstate route, covering an average distance of 1,187 miles along the East Coast. Whether you’re relocating, purchasing a vehicle, or heading north for the season, Sherpa Auto Transport makes the auto transport process simple and stress-free. The route runs primarily along I-95, one of the busiest and most well-traveled corridors in the country, which means carriers are frequently available and scheduling is straightforward.

Getting started with Florida to New Jersey auto transport is easy. First, request a quote and lock in your price with Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise — no surprise fees at delivery. Next, we match you with a vetted, licensed carrier who will pick up your vehicle from your chosen location in Florida. Before loading, you and the driver will complete a vehicle inspection report, documenting your car’s current condition. Your vehicle is then loaded onto an open or enclosed carrier and transported north to New Jersey.

There are a few things to keep in mind for this specific route. Florida is a major auto transport hub, especially during snowbird season in the fall and spring, which can affect carrier availability and pricing. New Jersey is a densely populated state, so urban areas like Newark or Jersey City may require terminal pickup or a nearby meeting point for large carriers. Pricing for this route typically ranges from $775 to $1,350, depending on the time of year, vehicle size, and transport type.

The typical transit time for car shipping from Florida to New Jersey is just 1 to 4 days once your vehicle is picked up. Sherpa Auto Transport keeps you informed every step of the way, with proactive communication and a dedicated support team. From sunny Florida to the Garden State, we make sure your vehicle arrives safely, on time, and at a price you can count on.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

Florida to New Jersey Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

Moving from Florida to New Jersey comes with important vehicle regulations to keep in mind. When you arrive, you have 60 days to register your car with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). Unlike Florida, New Jersey requires a vehicle inspection at the time of registration. This includes an emissions test and a safety check. Florida has no statewide emissions testing requirement, so this may be a new step for many drivers making the switch.

There are also key law differences between the two states. New Jersey has strict window tinting rules — front side windows must allow at least 70% of light in, which is much stricter than Florida’s 28% limit. New Jersey also enforces vehicle lift and frame height regulations more closely in certain counties. If your vehicle has been modified, have it inspected before completing your Florida to New Jersey car shipping arrangement to avoid surprises at registration.

Weather prep is one of the biggest concerns for drivers relocating from Florida. New Jersey winters bring snow, ice, and road salt — none of which Florida drivers are used to. Before or shortly after your auto transport is complete, consider switching to winter tires for better traction. You should also check your antifreeze levels, replace worn wiper blades with winter-rated ones, and treat exposed metal parts to resist rust from road salt. These simple steps can make a big difference in your safety during the colder months.

Insurance is another area where the two states differ. New Jersey is a no-fault insurance state, meaning your own insurer covers medical costs after an accident regardless of who is at fault. Florida is also a no-fault state, but New Jersey’s minimum coverage requirements are different and generally higher. After your car shipping from Florida to New Jersey is complete, contact your insurance provider right away to update your policy. Rates in New Jersey tend to be higher, so shopping around for competitive quotes is always a smart move.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Florida to New Jersey Vehicle Transport FAQs

Preparing your vehicle for car shipping from Florida to New Jersey is simple. Follow these key steps to ensure a smooth transit:

  • Remove personal items: Clear out any personal belongings from the interior. Carriers are not licensed to transport personal items, and they add unnecessary weight.
  • Remove accessories: Take off any exterior accessories such as spoilers, bike racks, or roof racks that could be damaged or cause damage during transport.
  • Remove your E-ZPass or SunPass: Florida toll passes like SunPass will not be needed during transit, and leaving them in the vehicle could result in unwanted charges.
  • Check your fluid levels and tire pressure: Make sure there are no fluid leaks and that your tires are properly inflated.
  • Leave only a quarter tank of gas: A full tank adds extra weight. A quarter tank is all you need.
  • Document existing damage: Take photos of your vehicle from all angles before pickup. This protects you if any disputes arise upon delivery in New Jersey.
  • Have a key ready: Make sure you have a working key available to hand off to the carrier.
  • Disable your alarm: If your car alarm is sensitive, disable it to avoid any issues during transport.

Yes, your vehicle is insured during transport from Florida to New Jersey. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we take the guesswork out of coverage so you can have peace of mind throughout the entire journey.

Every carrier in our network is required to carry:

  • $1,000,000 in liability insurance
  • $100,000 in cargo insurance

Before your vehicle ever leaves Florida, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the full duration of your shipment. We don’t cut corners — your car’s protection is a top priority.

Additionally, all contracted carriers are required to add Sherpa Auto Transport as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy. This gives us an added layer of oversight to protect you.

Our quotes are also all-inclusive, meaning there are no hidden fees or surprise charges. What you see is what you pay. If you have specific questions about coverage for your shipment, don’t hesitate to contact our team — we’re happy to help.

The sooner you schedule, the better. We recommend booking your Florida pickup at least two weeks in advance — but if your schedule allows, aim for three to four weeks ahead.

Here’s why early booking helps:

  • More carrier options: Carriers traveling the Florida-to-New Jersey route fill their trucks fast, especially during peak seasons like winter snowbird migrations and summer moving season.
  • Better pricing: Last-minute shipments often cost more. Booking early gives you access to more competitive rates.
  • Flexible pickup windows: Advance scheduling means you can choose a pickup window that works best for you, rather than rushing to fit a carrier’s tight timeline.

If you do need to ship on short notice, don’t worry — Sherpa Auto Transport can often accommodate expedited pickups from Florida, though availability and pricing may vary. Contact our team and we’ll do our best to get your vehicle on the road quickly.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

When shipping your car from Florida to New Jersey, you have two options: open transport and enclosed transport.

Open transport is the most popular and affordable choice. Your vehicle rides on an open-air trailer alongside other cars — the same way most new cars are delivered to dealerships. It’s safe, reliable, and the right choice for most standard vehicles.

Enclosed transport costs roughly 30–50% more, but offers maximum protection. Your car is fully shielded from road debris, weather, and the elements inside a covered trailer. This is the best option if you’re shipping a:

  • Luxury or exotic vehicle
  • Classic or vintage car
  • Vehicle with a custom paint job or body kit
  • Low-clearance sports car

For most everyday vehicles making the trip up the East Coast from Florida to New Jersey, open transport is the smarter, more cost-effective choice. But if your car holds significant monetary or sentimental value, the added peace of mind from enclosed shipping is well worth it.

Not sure which is right for you? Check out our in-depth open vs. enclosed auto transport guide to help you decide.
