Key Takeaways on Shipping your Car from Indiana to Florida

Auto Transport from Indiana to Florida

Shipping a car from Indiana to Florida costs between $800–$1,100, covers roughly 1,092 miles, and typically takes just 1–4 days to complete.

Our Indiana & Florida Customers

Sherpa Auto Transport backs every shipment with a Price Lock Promise — the price you’re quoted is the price you pay, guaranteed, with no hidden fees at delivery.

Factors that Impact Cost

Season has the biggest impact on cost for this route — snowbird demand from October through February drives prices up, so shipping in spring or summer can save you money.

Tips and Tricks to Save

The single best way to save on this route is to book early, especially during peak snowbird season, since carrier spots fill up fast and last-minute bookings cost more.

How Car Shipping Works

The most important step is preparing your vehicle before pickup — remove personal items, document existing damage with photos, and keep the gas tank at a quarter full.

State Insights

Florida requires new residents to register their vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency, and some Florida counties require emissions testing that Indiana does not.

TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

This was our first attempt to ship a personal vehicle anywhere. We shipped our 2013 RAV-4 from Lynn Haven FL, to Evansville IN; just over 600 miles. Every person we spoke, emailed, or texted was responsive and helpful. The carrier called early on Dec 1st; picked up our RAV-4 at 11:30 AM our time; and delivered it that same evening at 11:30 PM to our daughter. She paid the driver $650; so we spent $900 to have the auto picked up at our house and delivered to our daughter’s apartment. Would definitely use Sherpa again!!

I looked at the reviews online and the reviews from other people guided me to use Sherpa. They were very nice and were answering all my questions. They made me feel a little bit more at ease. The transport was from Indiana to Florida and it was a lot quicker than I expected. It was like in a couple of days time where they got the driver for me and the driver was able to do it in a couple of days. He picked the cars up on a Friday and they were there Saturday. I would tell people Sherpa was a good company if they are planning on using a transport company.

I was extremely hesitant with moving a car across country due to so many negative reviews out there for other companies. Sherpa really sealed the deal and helped us with ease, which I’m now a forever customer after our last experience. The price-lock guarantee was one of the main reasons I went with Sherpa. The people were extremely friendly and easy to get in touch with. I never had any issues at all. Everyone on the phone was extremely pleasant to work with! It took our car only 4.5 days to get from Indianapolis to Seattle. Great Job Sherpa – You all rock.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Indiana to Florida Shipping Prices

Distance

Indiana to Florida spans roughly 1,000–1,200 miles depending on your exact cities. That’s a long haul, which means higher fuel and driver costs — expect to pay more than shorter regional routes.

Route

Good news: Indiana to Florida follows major interstates like I-65 and I-75. These well-traveled highways attract more carriers, which keeps competition high and your shipping costs lower.

Season

Florida-bound snowbirds flood this route every fall and winter. Demand spikes from October through February, driving prices up. If you can ship in spring or summer, you may save a significant amount.

Vehicle Type

Shipping a standard sedan from Indiana to Florida costs less than shipping an SUV or truck. Larger vehicles take up more trailer space, weigh more, and burn more fuel — all of which raise your final price.

Traffic Considerations

Avoid shipping around Thanksgiving, spring break, and major holidays. Carrier demand surges and transit times slow down. Booking during quieter travel windows keeps costs down and delivery faster.

Carrier Availability

During peak snowbird season, carriers on the Indiana-to-Florida route fill up fast. Book early or expect delays. In the off-season, carriers are easier to find and turnaround times are much quicker.

Open vs Enclosed

Most vehicles shipping from Indiana to Florida travel on open trailers — the most affordable option. If you drive a luxury, classic, or exotic car, an enclosed trailer offers extra protection at a higher price.

Population Density

Delivering to Miami or downtown Orlando costs more than a suburban drop-off. Dense cities mean tight streets and limited carrier access. If possible, meet your carrier at a nearby suburb to save time and money.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping during the off-season can save you money. Snowbird season drives up demand and prices. Even shifting your shipment by a few weeks outside peak periods can lead to noticeably lower rates.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Choosing a five-day window for pickup and delivery gives carriers more scheduling options. This flexibility often translates to lower costs, since carriers can more easily fit your vehicle into existing routes.

Hub City Advantages

Carriers prefer routes along major highways. Choosing a pickup or delivery location near a highway hub in Indiana or Florida increases your carrier options and encourages competitive pricing, saving you money overall.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed ones and work well for most standard vehicles. If you’re shipping a luxury or classic car, an enclosed trailer offers extra protection but will cost more.

HOW IT WORKS

How does Car Shipping from Indiana to Florida Work?

Picturesque view of Florida

Indiana to Florida car shipping is a popular route, especially for snowbirds heading south for the winter and families relocating to the Sunshine State. The process is straightforward. You start by getting a free quote, then book your shipment with a licensed auto transport carrier. A driver picks up your vehicle at an agreed location in Indiana and hauls it south along major interstates like I-65 and I-75. Your car is then delivered directly to your destination in Florida. With an average distance of 1,092 miles, this route is well-traveled by carriers, which means more availability and competitive pricing.

When planning your Indiana to Florida car shipping, there are a few key things to keep in mind. Florida is a high-demand destination, particularly during the fall and winter months. This seasonal surge can affect carrier availability and pricing. Expect to pay between $800 and $1,100 for standard auto transport on this route, depending on the time of year, vehicle size, and the type of carrier you choose — open or enclosed. Booking early during peak snowbird season (October through January) is strongly recommended to lock in the best rates and secure your preferred pickup window.

The steps involved in shipping your car from Indiana to Florida are simple. First, get a quote and choose your transport type. Next, prepare your vehicle by removing personal items, documenting any existing damage, and ensuring the gas tank is about a quarter full. Then, hand your vehicle off to the carrier at pickup. You’ll receive updates throughout transit, and upon delivery in Florida, you’ll inspect your car and sign off on the Bill of Lading. The entire process is designed to be hassle-free from start to finish.

As for timing, most Indiana to Florida auto transport shipments are completed in just 1 to 4 days once your vehicle is picked up. Pickup itself typically happens within 1 to 3 business days of booking, depending on carrier availability in your area. Overall, from the moment you book to the moment your car arrives in Florida, you can plan for roughly one week. Sherpa Auto Transport’s Price Lock Promise means the quote you receive is the price you pay — no surprise fees at delivery.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

Indiana to Florida Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

Moving from Indiana to Florida comes with some important vehicle-related changes to know before you go. When it comes to registration, Florida requires new residents to register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency. You’ll need a Florida insurance card, proof of identity, and a vehicle title. Indiana does not require emissions testing, but Florida counties like Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach do. Make sure your vehicle meets Florida’s emissions standards before completing your Indiana to Florida car shipping journey.

Florida and Indiana also differ on window tinting laws. Indiana allows front side windows to have 30% VLT (visible light transmission), while Florida requires at least 28% VLT on front side windows and 15% on rear windows. If your vehicle is tinted to Indiana’s standards, it should still comply in Florida — but it’s worth double-checking. Florida also has no vehicle height restrictions for standard passenger cars, though lifted trucks must meet federal safety standards. Neither state requires periodic safety inspections, which simplifies things during your auto transport process.

One of the biggest perks of relocating via car shipping from Indiana to Florida is leaving winter weather behind. That means you can swap out your winter tires for all-season or summer tires, which perform much better in Florida’s heat. You should also check your coolant levels, air conditioning system, and tire pressure regularly, as Florida’s high temperatures can accelerate wear. UV-protective window film and sunshades are smart additions to protect your interior from intense sun exposure year-round.

Insurance is another key area to review. Florida is a no-fault insurance state, meaning your own insurance covers your medical bills regardless of who caused the accident. Indiana uses an at-fault system. Florida requires a minimum of $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and $10,000 in Property Damage Liability. These minimums are lower than what most experts recommend, so consider upgrading your coverage. Updating your policy before your auto transport is complete ensures you’re legally covered the moment your vehicle arrives in the Sunshine State.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Indiana to Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

Preparing your vehicle for car shipping from Indiana to Florida is simple. Follow these key steps to ensure a smooth transit:

  • Clean your car: Wash the exterior so any pre-existing scratches, dents, or damage are easy to spot and document before pickup.
  • Document the condition: Take clear photos of all sides of your vehicle. This protects you in the unlikely event of a dispute.
  • Remove personal items: Clear out all personal belongings from the interior. Most carriers are not insured to cover personal items left inside.
  • Remove accessories: Take off any exterior add-ons like spoilers, bike racks, or roof boxes that could be damaged in transit.
  • Remove your toll pass: Detach any E-ZPass, SunPass, or other toll transponders to avoid unwanted charges along the route.
  • Check fluids and tire pressure: Make sure your vehicle is in good working order, but keep the fuel tank no more than a quarter full to reduce weight.
  • Disable alarms: Let your carrier know how to handle your car alarm, or deactivate it to avoid disruptions during transport.
  • Provide a working key: Make sure you have a copy of your key ready to hand off to the carrier at pickup.

Yes, your vehicle is insured when shipping from Indiana to Florida with Sherpa Auto Transport. Every carrier we work with is required to carry a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance.

Before your car ever leaves Indiana, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is active and in good standing. We don’t just take their word for it — we confirm coverage for the full duration of your shipment to Florida.

All of our contracted carriers are also required to add Sherpa Auto Transport as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy. This gives us an added layer of oversight and accountability to protect your vehicle.

We recommend reviewing your personal auto insurance policy as well. Some policies offer supplemental coverage during transport, which can give you extra peace of mind on the road from Indiana to Florida.

The sooner you book, the better. We recommend scheduling your pickup at least two weeks in advance — but if you can book earlier, do it. Here’s why:

  • Carrier availability: The Indiana-to-Florida route is popular, but open spots fill up fast — especially in winter when snowbirds are heading south.
  • Better pricing: Last-minute bookings often cost more. Booking early gives carriers time to bundle your vehicle with others heading the same way, which keeps costs down.
  • Less stress: Locking in your shipment early means one less thing to worry about on moving day.

If your move is time-sensitive, Sherpa Auto Transport offers flexible scheduling to work around your timeline. Just keep in mind that the more lead time you give us, the smoother your experience will be.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

Open transport is the most popular and affordable option for shipping your car from Indiana to Florida. Your vehicle rides on an open-air trailer — the same type used to deliver new cars to dealerships. It’s safe, reliable, and the right choice for most standard vehicles.

Enclosed transport costs roughly 50% more than open transport, but it provides extra protection. Your car is shipped inside a covered trailer, shielded from road debris, weather, and dust along the Indiana to Florida route. It’s the best choice if you own a:

  • Classic or antique car
  • Luxury or exotic vehicle
  • Car with a custom paint job or low ground clearance

For most everyday vehicles, open transport is the smarter, more cost-effective choice. If your car holds high monetary or sentimental value, the added cost of enclosed shipping is worth the peace of mind. Learn more in our open vs. enclosed auto transport guide.

Yes! Sherpa Auto Transport offers door-to-door auto transport service for all shipments from Indiana to Florida. This is the most convenient way to ship your car — no need to drop it off at a terminal or travel out of your way.

Here’s how it works: when you book your shipment, simply provide your preferred pickup address in Indiana and your delivery address in Florida. Your assigned carrier will come directly to those locations to load and unload your vehicle.

Keep in mind that carriers drive large trucks, so there may be occasional limitations. If a residential street or neighborhood is too narrow or has low-hanging trees, your driver will work with you to find a safe, nearby alternative — like a parking lot or gas station just around the corner. This is rare, but it’s good to know upfront.

The bottom line: door-to-door service saves you time and hassle, making your Indiana to Florida move as smooth as possible.

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket.

While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.
