TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

I have a Toyota Yaris, which is a very small, light car that’s not very great for highway driving, and I didn’t wanna drive it long distance from Chicago to Washington, D.C., so I needed a transport service. Communication was very easy with Sherpa and I liked how they communicated. They gave me a very good price too. I received lower quotes from other companies, but I didn’t have as much confidence in them. I would rather pay more and feel better than pay less and be nervous.

I’m in the military and I had to change duty stations, so I needed to ship my car, a Honda Accord 2015, from Washington to Maryland. I looked at two transport companies, then I went with Sherpa because their reviews were good and their price was more reasonable. The rep, Tim, was perfect and I loved him. When I got worried because the transport date was coming and I didn’t have a driver yet, he let me know that he was gonna do everything he could to get me a driver.

We were going from Atlanta to New Jersey. One thing that I appreciated about Sherpa was that you give them your dates, they tell you if that window works, and you pay them so much upfront as soon as your driver is assigned and the rest goes to the driver. But they have a policy where if they can’t get a driver assigned, and you’re kind of in the middle or near the end of your window, they will take what you’re supposed to pay to them and start pushing that towards the driver side to incentivize somebody to want to take the route.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect New Jersey to Washington Shipping Prices

Distance

The New Jersey to Washington route spans approximately 2,800 miles cross-country. This significant distance directly impacts fuel costs, driver time, and vehicle wear, making it one of the pricier coast-to-coast shipping routes available.

Route

Shipping from New Jersey to Washington typically follows major interstates like I-80 or I-90, which offer efficient transport and lower costs. These well-traveled highways provide better carrier access than remote routes, keeping your shipping expenses reasonable.

Season

Summer months see increased demand for New Jersey to Washington shipping as families relocate and students move. Winter can bring weather delays and higher costs. Spring and fall typically offer the best rates and availability for this route.

Vehicle Type

Larger vehicles like SUVs and trucks cost more to ship from New Jersey to Washington due to increased weight and space requirements. Sedans and compact cars are easier to load and consume less fuel, resulting in lower shipping costs overall.

Traffic Considerations

Peak travel periods like Thanksgiving week and summer holidays create congestion on cross-country routes. Scheduling your New Jersey to Washington shipment during off-peak times helps carriers maintain schedules and can reduce your costs significantly.

Carrier Availability

During peak summer season, carriers on the New Jersey to Washington route may book weeks in advance. Off-season shipping typically offers quicker carrier assignment within days, providing more flexibility and potentially better rates for your vehicle transport.

Open vs Enclosed

Open trailers are the economical choice for New Jersey to Washington shipping, costing significantly less than enclosed options. However, luxury or classic vehicles benefit from enclosed transport’s protection against weather and road debris across 2,800 miles.

Population Density

Pickup from dense New Jersey areas or delivery to downtown Seattle involves navigating tight streets and traffic. Choosing suburban pickup or delivery locations with easier truck access can reduce costs and simplify the shipping process considerably.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Timing matters when shipping your vehicle. Off-season transport costs significantly less than peak periods like snowbird season. Even shifting your shipment by a few weeks can result in substantial savings on your New Jersey to Washington route.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Flexible scheduling saves money. Carriers offer lower rates when you provide a five-day window for pickup and delivery instead of exact dates. This flexibility allows them to optimize routes, passing savings directly to you.

Hub City Advantages

Location affects pricing. Choose pickup and delivery spots near major highways in New Jersey and Washington for better rates. Highway-accessible locations attract more carriers, increasing competition and lowering costs compared to remote rural areas.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed options. Most standard vehicles ship safely on open carriers, saving you money. Reserve enclosed trailers for luxury or classic cars needing extra protection from weather and road debris.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

New Jersey to Washington Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

When planning car shipping from New Jersey to Washington, understanding the regulatory differences between states helps ensure a smooth transition. Washington requires new residents to register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency. You’ll need to pass a vehicle inspection at a licensed facility, which checks safety features and verifies the VIN. New Jersey titles must be surrendered during the Washington registration process.

Emission requirements differ significantly between these states. While New Jersey mandates emissions testing for most vehicles, Washington only requires testing in certain counties like Pierce, King, Snohomish, and Spokane. If you’re moving to rural Washington areas, your vehicle may be exempt. Window tinting laws also vary—Washington allows 24% light transmission on front side windows, while New Jersey permits 35%, so your current tint should comply.

Auto transport from New Jersey to Washington means preparing for different weather conditions. Washington’s western regions experience heavy rainfall, making quality windshield wipers and functional defrosters essential. Eastern Washington sees harsh winters with snow and ice, so consider investing in winter tires or all-season alternatives. Undercoating protection helps prevent rust from road salt and moisture. These modifications should be completed after your New Jersey to Washington car shipping is complete.

Insurance considerations require attention when relocating. Washington operates as a tort state, unlike New Jersey’s no-fault system, meaning at-fault drivers bear liability for accidents. Washington requires minimum coverage of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, plus $10,000 for property damage. These minimums differ from New Jersey requirements, so contact your insurance provider before your move. Many carriers offer coverage in both states, but rates may change based on your new location. Notify your insurer immediately after your auto transport arrives to ensure continuous coverage and compliance with Washington state law.
