What our Sacramento customers say about Sherpa:
“The representative was very meticulous and explained everything to me. He was more accurate than the other guys from the other companies and was cautious with me. He explained it could be this or it could be a little bit more but this would be right in the ballpark, and it was. The whole experience was good and I was a little worried for naught. Overall, it was a clean transaction with Sherpa and there was a lot of good communication.”
“Had Sherpa transported my car from LA to Sacramento area. Called the company on Wednesday morning. An auto carrier was located early afternoon. Car was picked up on the same day at 6pm. The car was delivered on Friday morning as promised by the driver. Car was In perfect shape at delivery.”
“I did quite a bit of research online before hiring Sherpa to transport a vehicle from Oklahoma to California. I had an excellent experience from start to finish and would highly recommend both Sherpa and the driver they hired to transport the vehicle. Pickup was on time and delivery was within an hour of their initial prediction.”

Factors that affect Sacramento Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Sacramento’s central location in California affects shipping costs. Longer distances, such as cross-country trips, typically cost more than shorter routes within the state or to neighboring areas.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Sacramento. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier and often slower, provides extra protection for high-value vehicles against Sacramento’s occasional extreme heat or rare winter storms.
- Location Accessibility: Sacramento’s well-connected highway system, including I-5 and I-80, makes it easier and cheaper to ship cars to and from the city compared to more remote areas in Northern California.
- Seasonal Demand: Auto transport prices in Sacramento may fluctuate with the seasons. Summer months and January often see higher demand and prices, while spring and fall can offer more competitive rates.
- Vehicle Specifications: The size, weight, and condition of your car impact shipping costs. Larger vehicles or those with low ground clearance may cost more to transport. Non-running cars require special equipment, increasing the price.
- Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window, such as Sherpa’s five-day option, can reduce your car shipping costs to or from Sacramento. Rush services for quicker pickup or delivery will increase the price.
Understanding these factors can help you plan and budget for your Sacramento car shipping needs. For more detailed information on pricing factors, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Sacramento car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-5 or I-80. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your auto transport price.
- Lighten your load: Remove personal items from your vehicle before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues for the car shipping company.
- Be flexible: Offer a range of pickup and delivery dates. The more flexible you are, the better chances of finding cost-effective car shipping options to or from Sacramento, CA.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer. Scheduling your auto transport during off-peak times can result in more competitive rates for shipping a car to or from California’s capital.

Sacramento, California Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Sacramento?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Sacramento. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Sacramento?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Sacramento?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Sacramento?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Sacramento
When scheduling car shipping to or from Sacramento, CA, it’s crucial to consider the city’s unique climate and seasonal factors. Sacramento experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Here are some practical tips to ensure a smooth auto transport experience:
- Summer Considerations: With temperatures often exceeding 90°F (32°C) from June to September, protect your vehicle during car transport. Use a sunshade under the windshield to prevent interior damage. Remove heat-sensitive items that might melt or warp.
- Winter Precautions: While snow is rare, Sacramento can experience frost and occasional freezing temperatures. If shipping a car during winter, ensure any liquids left in the vehicle won’t freeze and potentially damage containers.
- Rainy Season: November to March brings most of Sacramento’s rainfall. When arranging car shipping services, choose pickup and drop-off locations on level ground to avoid slippery conditions for transport trucks.
- Peak Seasons: As the state capital and home to several universities, Sacramento car shipping demand peaks in late August and early September when students return. Consider scheduling your auto transport a few weeks before or after this rush for potentially better rates and availability.
- Agricultural Impact: The surrounding Central Valley’s harvest season (late summer to fall) can increase road traffic. Plan your car transport accordingly to avoid potential delays.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, you can ensure a more efficient and cost-effective experience when using car shipping services in Sacramento, CA. Always communicate with your chosen car shipping company about any specific concerns related to the time of year you’re planning to transport your vehicle.
Car Shipping for College Students in Sacramento, California
When considering car shipping to Sacramento for college, it’s crucial to understand parking regulations at local universities. At Sacramento State University, students must purchase parking permits, with options for daily, semester, or annual passes. On-campus parking is available but can be limited during peak hours. Most off-campus apartments offer parking, but it’s wise to confirm before leasing. For UC Davis, about 20 minutes from Sacramento, a similar permit system exists. Students can store vehicles during breaks in designated long-term parking areas. Weather isn’t a major concern for car transport in Sacramento, as snow is rare. However, students should ensure their auto insurance and roadside assistance coverage is valid in California. When using car shipping services to Sacramento, coordinate delivery with move-in dates and campus parking availability. Remember, a reliable car shipping company can make your transition to college life smoother, allowing you to focus on your studies rather than logistics.
Vehicle Shipping for Military Members in Sacramento, California
While Sacramento itself doesn’t host major military installations, several bases are within driving distance. Beale Air Force Base, about an hour north, offers on-base parking for active duty members. However, those living off-base should check local parking regulations. Travis Air Force Base, roughly an hour southwest, provides similar amenities. Both bases have commissaries and exchanges for military families. For those shipping cars to Sacramento for military moves, it’s crucial to coordinate with your base’s transportation office. They can provide guidance on vehicle registration requirements and local resources. Remember, Sherpa Auto Transport offers a $50 military discount for car shipping services to show appreciation for your service. Whether you’re relocating to Sacramento or a nearby base, our team is here to ensure your auto transport needs are met with the respect and efficiency you deserve. Thank you and your families for your dedication to our country.
Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“Setting up the transport was super easy. I called Sherpa and told them what I needed. They sent me a price. They followed up with an email. There were absolutely no surprises. The pickup and delivery were both good. They wanted to pick up earlier and we weren`t really ready for earlier, which is always a good thing. So we scheduled a time and the driver called about 30 minutes out. Then he sent a text and was there on time, and loaded the cars. The driver did a great job. He looked at every inch of the two cars. He found little divots of things that I didn`t even see. So it was very good. He loaded them and then I asked him, “When do you think you`ll be in Dallas?” We were moving from Sacramento to Dallas. He said, “I`ll be there on Monday.” Sherpa told us to expect the transport to take three or four days. They picked it up on Thursday and on Monday, I was sitting at my desk working and I got a phone call. It was 10 in the morning and the driver said he was there. I was expecting him to be there around late Monday. But that was a good thing. They under promised and over delivered. Moving across country can be a daunting experience but Sherpa made it easy. They even called afterwards to make sure that the cars were fine, and that we were pleased. Somebody is actually doing what they say they`re going to do. Hopefully, I`ll never have to move again. But if I do, I would definitely use Sherpa and I would recommend them in a heartbeat.”
“Sherpa was awesome. They had a good quote and they came through with what was promised. The pickup was in Michigan, while drop-off was in California, and it was about a week. They emailed me updates, then eventually, they texted me how to reach the driver. We made a drop-off date, time, and location and it worked out. They used a big rig to Sacramento, and from Sacramento, they dropped off the car into a different truck, then this truck only had three vehicles on it. It was super easy, and the vehicle`s condition was great. All in all, Sherpa is reliable and I love how they had upfront pricing. They were a bit more expensive than some of the other carriers, but they were honest. I would recommend them 10 out of 10 times.”
“Sherpa Auto Transport is very best in communication and reasonable price that I found in the website. My 2002 Mercedes was shipped from Madison, WI to Sacramento, CA in 4 days after Sherpa arranged hr driver. I would recommend Sherpa to my friends and my family. Thanks for your best services.”
“Only one review?? Wow, that sucks because I would`ve sworn this company was one of the most credible. I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article. After retrieving a quote for nearly every company in the article, I instantly put Sherpa at the top of my list because of their promised flat-rate policy. If you have experience shipping a car, you know how great this is. Shortly after, I received a phone call from a very lovely worker who offered me a much appreciated rebate if I chose to go with them instead of other companies I was considering at the time. He also explained the entire process very thoroughly which was very helpful for my young, confused mind. I instantly felt like I would be in good hands leaving my precious baby in the hands of a stranger for 5 days to a week, and this feeling held true throughout the entire process. The company they partnered with (Spark Prime Logistics, in my case) handled my car with the upmost care and she actually arrived in better condition than when I left her (broken trunk hatch issue…maybe the desert heat helped? idk, but I`m not complaining lol). My carrier wouldn`t even pull into a residential street to avoid scratching anyone`s vehicle. Instant approval. I trust that Sherpa would only partner the best of the best to get the job done. All in all, I am absolutely pleased with Sherpa and would confidently say that I`d instantly go to them if I ever again decide to make another crazy man`s move across states. No more searching. Sherpa for the win!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Sacramento, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
