What our Sonoma customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa’s pricing was very competitive, and the little extra was throwing in the free carwash at the end of the trip. I contacted them to see if they met my schedule. It seemed like they were able to line up pretty closely to the schedule. I was impressed with the rep that I initially spoke to. The company they partnered with handled my car with the utmost care and she actually arrived in better condition than when I left her. All in all, I am absolutely pleased with Sherpa and would confidently say that I’d instantly go to them if I ever again decide to make another crazy man’s move across states.”
“We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. Sherpa Transport guaranteed the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window.”
“I stumbled upon Sherpa reviews here, which made me more comfortable and confident to call, needing my car shipped from San Diego to Florida. Customer service was excellent with my first call, explained how transport works, they aren’t like the companies that have hundreds of random people calling, texting, and emailing, asked for a window date I needed my car picked up, and got a quote done. I felt great after the call. Communication was top notch from customer service to the driver.”

Factors that affect Sonoma Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The journey length significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Sonoma, CA. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, as fuel and labor costs increase.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to Sonoma. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers extra protection for luxury or classic cars against Sonoma’s occasional rain or debris.
- Location Accessibility: Sonoma’s proximity to major routes like Highway 101 and I-80 can help keep costs down. However, if you’re shipping to a more remote area of Sonoma County, it might increase the price.
- Seasonal Factors: Car shipping to Sonoma may cost more during peak tourist seasons, especially during the fall harvest or summer months when the area is bustling with visitors.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to Sonoma than smaller cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Vehicle Condition: Inoperable vehicles are more expensive to ship to Sonoma as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.
- Flexible Scheduling: Opting for a wider pickup window can often result in lower car shipping costs to Sonoma, CA.
Understanding these factors can help you manage your auto transport costs effectively. For a more detailed breakdown of car shipping prices, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Sonoma car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open shipping provides the lowest rates and most flexibility for negotiating prices when transporting your car to or from Sonoma, CA.
- Consider pickup/dropoff locations: Discuss with Sherpa advisors about convenient spots near major highways like US-101 or I-80. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better options and potentially lower costs for your Sonoma auto transport.
- Opt for door-to-terminal or terminal-to-door: While Sherpa doesn’t offer terminal-to-terminal services, choosing either door-to-terminal or terminal-to-door can still help reduce costs compared to full door-to-door service.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer for potentially lower rates when shipping your car to or from Sonoma’s beautiful wine country.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Sonoma?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“Sherpa had a good rating on Better Business Bureau and it said that Sherpa was a bit more expensive than some of the other ones, but they had a guarantee to get your car moved in the appropriate time frame. I realized that in that industry, they give you a date but it would float a couple of days here or there. So, it`s not definitive because they are just an agent. They`re not actually moving the car. I was always moving out of state, so I wanted to make sure that I had that whole week. I would still be up in New York. So, I decided to call them and get a quote. I had some lowball quotes, but most of them were at 700, 800. The rep gave me a quote of 1,900 and I said to him, “Look, don`t you guys have some more guarantees than the other companies?” But $1,900, that`s more than double. He ended up inputting the wrong destination. He put it in California rather than North Carolina. So, he went back to check it, and then he said, “Oh, wait a minute. I screwed up. Hold on one second.” He then did it. They were a bit more expensive, but I wanted my car to get down there. I was moving to North Carolina and they`re based out of Charlotte.”
“We relocated from the West Coast to the East Coast with two vehicles, so we needed to use a transport service. Sherpa Auto Transport transported one from Mountain View, California to Boston and the second one was from Salt Lake City to Green Bay, Wisconsin. We were supposed to drive across the country, but our trip was interrupted by a death in the family. Sherpa arranged the transport in 24 hours and picked the car up in Salt Lake City at the hotel. We went to the funeral and the car met us in Green Bay a few days later. I had originally booked with another company two months in advance, but on the day of the transport, they were nowhere to be found. We had already paid them and they had assigned a driver. The driver called me on the day of the pick up and said that he was not scheduled to be there for two more days. We were flying out to drop our son off at college, so we were stuck.”
“A couple years ago, my wife and I started living in two locations on two coasts. So, we split our time since we`re both retired both in Massachusetts and California. So, we had access to a car while we were here in California. Over the first few years, that car died after a long life. To give us greater flexibility, we decided to ship one of our two cars from Massachusetts to California for our flexibility here. All three estimates that I got were reasonably close to each other. I kicked the highest one out. I viewed this as transactions as long as they were rated reasonably well by previous users of the services. So, it narrowed down to Sherpa. At the end of the day, it turned out really silly. But it was the free car wash at the end. Both companies came out and they each added one service at the end of the kicker to try and win us over. Sherpa was a free carwash, the other one was a free car rental if they didn`t deliver the car when they said they would by a certain date.”
“I had used Sherpa before. They were not the least expensive but they were reliable which is more important. I had a very bad experience many years ago and reliability is my most important criterion. United was the transport company at that time and they had driven my car. They delivered my car with not even enough gas to get to a gas station. It had 500 extra miles on it before, which was a lot of mileage. United offered me 31 cents a mile for the usage. The problem is there are no laws that govern this industry. Once you hand your car over, the company can literally do whatever they want with it. I paid a lot of money to have my car transported from California to DC. I tried to take United to court. I took the case as far as I could take it. After the attorneys told me there was nothing to do, I even took it to one of those over the radio shows. Once United said they offered me 31 cents a mile, everything was apparently taken care of. That was legal. All they have to do is offer you what the IRS considers the cost of usage.”
“My daughter was moving from Florida to California, and we needed to transport her car from here to there so that it doesn’t do the wear and tear of her driving it all the way over there. I looked at three or four companies and sent inquiries to all of them, but Sherpa was the first to call me and they were excellent on the phone. They`re very informative, easy and non-pushy. I also liked the fact that nowadays, there’s a big list that everybody uses with all the drivers, and people bid on different moves. Sherpa doesn’t charge you until they get a driver, so you know that it’s gonna happen. We live up in Central Wisconsin, so I was looking to save some money. The rep said that if I was interested in bringing the car to Milwaukee, it would probably get a lower price so we decided to do that. Once the whole thing started going and we got the guy, he called us and he was coming in from the middle of Wisconsin as it is, so he was able to pick the car up right near where we live, without us having to go down there.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Sonoma, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
