What our Stockton customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa was very responsive. They quoted me a rate that was competitive and held their rate even as I was waiting for my car financing to come through, which was 2-3 weeks later. Once I gave them the thumbs up to pick up my car from the dealer in Stockton, they found a driver within three days to deliver the vehicle to Portland within two days, exceeding my expectations.”
“I checked ConsumerAffairs, and that helped me decide on maybe giving Sherpa a try. The lady I spoke to was very friendly, helpful and able to answer my questions. I felt comfortable talking to her, so I decided to go ahead and give them a try, and it worked out good.”
“Sherpa picked up the car and they walked me through what they were gonna do and what they were looking for. When they dropped the car off, they again walked through everything and what was on the car. They were really friendly and helpful. The quote seemed reasonable too.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Stockton Car Shipping Prices
- Distance and Route: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Stockton, CA. Longer distances generally mean higher prices. However, Stockton’s central location in California’s Central Valley, with easy access to Interstate 5 and Highway 99, can help keep costs down for many routes.
- Vehicle Type: The size, weight, and value of your car affect shipping prices. Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks cost more to transport than compact cars. High-end or luxury vehicles may require special handling, potentially increasing costs.
- Transport Method: Open transport is the most common and affordable option for car shipping to Stockton. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from weather and road debris. This option is ideal for classic or luxury cars but typically takes longer.
- Seasonal Factors: Auto transport prices can fluctuate based on the time of year. Summer months and January tend to be busier and more expensive. Stockton’s mild climate means fewer weather-related delays, but demand can still affect prices seasonally.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like Stockton are generally cheaper for car shipping than rural locations. If you’re flexible, choosing a pickup or drop-off point near major highways can reduce costs.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the transport truck. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the cost.
- Timing and Flexibility: Rush orders or specific date requirements typically cost more. Offering a flexible pickup window can help you secure better rates for your Stockton car shipping needs.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Stockton car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is typically more affordable than enclosed transport. It’s suitable for most vehicles and offers greater flexibility in pricing.
- Select optimal locations: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find pickup and dropoff points near major highways like I-5 or CA-99. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your rate.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can help you secure better rates. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more competitive pricing options.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to and from Stockton may be more affordable during off-peak seasons. Avoid busy summer months or holiday periods when demand is high.
- Opt for terminal-to-terminal service: While Sherpa doesn’t offer this option, it’s worth noting that terminal-to-terminal shipping can sometimes be more cost-effective than door-to-door service.

California requires all vehicles to pass a smog check before registration, so if you’re moving to Stockton, be prepared for this inspection. Stockton, California Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Stockton?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Stockton?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Stockton?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Stockton?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Stockton
When planning car shipping to or from Stockton, CA, it’s crucial to consider the city’s unique climate and seasonal factors. Stockton experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Here are some practical tips to ensure a smooth auto transport experience:
- Summer Considerations: Stockton’s summers can be scorching, with temperatures often exceeding 90°F (32°C). When shipping your car during this season, consider placing a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior. Also, remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
- Winter Precautions: While Stockton rarely sees snow, winter can bring occasional frost and fog. If you’re shipping a car during winter, ensure the pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to avoid any issues with slippery surfaces.
- Rainy Season: The wettest months in Stockton are typically from November to March. During this time, make sure your vehicle is clean before transport to avoid water spots or potential rust formation.
- Peak Shipping Times: Stockton is home to the University of the Pacific, so car transport services may be in higher demand during the start and end of academic terms. Consider scheduling your shipment a few weeks before or after these peak periods for potentially better rates and availability.
- Agricultural Considerations: As Stockton is surrounded by agricultural areas, be aware that harvest seasons (typically late summer to early fall) may impact local traffic and potentially affect car shipping schedules.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience in Stockton, CA. Always communicate with your chosen car shipping company about any specific concerns or requirements related to the local climate and timing of your shipment.

Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“Great experience! Shipping a car is so stressful. There are so many companies out there that try to give low ball quotes, and when you call them they will not guarantee the rate. You think you can get a good deal just to find out they raise their price or don`t respond to your phone calls. The whole process makes you lose sleep especially when you have a limited window of time to get the car shipped. I used Sherpa in May to ship a car with no issues. Then I thought I could do the return trip on my own by arranging the transport myself and save a little money. What a mistake! The shippers I spoke to promised low rates then said no guarantee if the route doesn`t get picked up, another shipper said he would do it then never responded to my calls. I was seriously losing sleep over it. So I said, ” This is absurd I am calling Sherpa again.” This was my second time using Sherpa. I called Sherpa and had my vehicle picked up in a few days. The transporter was responsive to my phone calls and delivered on time as promised. The Sherpa team did a great job they are all professional and friendly. They reassured me that I gave them enough notice to get the car shipped and I was priced right to have someone pick it up. I did not have to worry about the price once they gave me the quote because they guaranteed it. If a shipper needs more money to pick up the car, Sherpa contributes the difference. I really let them do all the work. Excellent service. I will never try to find my own shipper again and definitely stick with Sherpa.”
“I was shipping the vehicle from Lake Charles to California, Stockton and Sherpa responded to an email that I requested. They gave me a quote and it was a done deal. I paid the amount that they gave me and there were no cut corners. The rep took the vehicle on Wednesday and I got it on Sunday. It was a good experience and I would recommend Sherpa to a friend.”
“I locked in with Sherpa to transport my SUV from Boston to California. I was looking for transport within a day or two from the day I locked in. Within literally 30 minutes I got a call saying a transport had chosen my car and I should hear from them within 24 hours. I heard from the transport within 2 hours. The gentleman from *********************** made all the arrangements with me. My car was to be picked up the next day and I would get a call 30 minutes prior to pick up to give me time to get to an arranged spot for pick up that I chose. Sure enough the next day I got the call and brought the car to the pick up point I requested. The man I met was great, he checked the car over, took his pictures and loaded it up. I was given all the paperwork Sherpa said I would get and the car was on its way.The car was supposed to be delivered to California between July 4-6. I was told I would receive a call 24 hours out and then again 30 minutes out. I was given contact information to check on my car if necessary and instructions on final payment (Sherpa`s fee paid after they secured *********************** and ********** fee upon delivery). On July 3 I received the call my car was coming on July 4 and then on July 4 I received the call that it was 30 minutes away. ******* was my driver with ***********************. When he arrived, he quickly and safely unloaded my car, told me to check it out and handled all the paperwork. He was on his way within 20-30 minutes. And I have to say he was very friendly and gave us all the time we needed to check over the car. My car arrived in 4-5 days and I`m happy to report there were no problems whatsoever. We took it for the car wash that comes along with Sherpa`s deal and we hit the road again as planned. I have to say, Sherpa`s people were great. They were helpful, professional and just plain nice! They secured a transport in record time and that transport was just as helpful, professional and awesome at what they did!!! I would HIGHLY recommend Sherpa to anyone and everyone and I would also highly recommend ***********************!.. The ease of this whole process was amazing! Thank you Sherpa and thank you ***********************!”
“Only one review?? Wow, that sucks because I would`ve sworn this company was one of the most credible. I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article. After retrieving a quote for nearly every company in the article, I instantly put Sherpa at the top of my list because of their promised flat-rate policy. If you have experience shipping a car, you know how great this is. Shortly after, I received a phone call from a very lovely worker who offered me a much appreciated rebate if I chose to go with them instead of other companies I was considering at the time. He also explained the entire process very thoroughly which was very helpful for my young, confused mind. I instantly felt like I would be in good hands leaving my precious baby in the hands of a stranger for 5 days to a week, and this feeling held true throughout the entire process. The company they partnered with (Spark Prime Logistics, in my case) handled my car with the upmost care and she actually arrived in better condition than when I left her (broken trunk hatch issue…maybe the desert heat helped? idk, but I`m not complaining lol). My carrier wouldn`t even pull into a residential street to avoid scratching anyone`s vehicle. Instant approval. I trust that Sherpa would only partner the best of the best to get the job done. All in all, I am absolutely pleased with Sherpa and would confidently say that I`d instantly go to them if I ever again decide to make another crazy man`s move across states. No more searching. Sherpa for the win!”
“If you`ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn`t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won`t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Stockton, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Whether you’re relocating to Stockton’s vibrant community or moving away, a reliable car shipping company can make your transition smoother, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your move.
Choosing the Right Auto Transport Company
When choosing a car shipping company for Stockton, CA, look for providers with a solid reputation and extensive experience. Ensure they offer adequate insurance coverage and have a good safety record with the FMCSA. Quality customer service, competitive pricing, and a range of auto transport options are crucial. Be wary of companies that demand large upfront deposits or have numerous unresolved complaints. Remember, reliable car shipping services should be transparent about their processes and fees. As you navigate through options, consider how well they understand Stockton’s unique needs, such as handling agricultural exports or accommodating the city’s growing logistics sector. By carefully evaluating these factors, you’ll find a trustworthy partner for your Stockton car shipping needs.
