What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

Consumer Affairs
After calling several transportation companies which made me feel uncomfortable I check the Better Business Bureau and saw Sherpa listed. Sherpa’s customer service team is one of the best in of any industry not just vehicle transport. All three customer service representatives I spoke with from my initial inquiry to follow up were all incredible which won me over. The contractor got my mother’s vehicle from Stamford, CT to Port St. Lucie, FL in two days. He loaded and departed between 10pm-11pm Tuesday night and delivered my mom’s vehicle between 7pm-7:15pm Thursday night. Best Service Ever!!! I have been telling co-workers, friends, relatives and church folks about Sherpa!!!!

I was having my car transported from Florida to Connecticut last month. From the time that I contacted Sherpa, I was met with professionalism, competence and complete assurance that they would find a transporter to fulfill my request. And that is what they did. Once they took the initial deposit, within a day they provided me with contact information for my transporter, Floridian Auto Transport (who also gave five star service). The transporter contacted me, picked up my car on schedule and delivered it to me in Connecticut within the window that it promised. I would highly recommend Sherpa to set up any auto transport needs and if I should have the need again, I will definitely contact them. Great service! Sandra

I needed a car shipped from California to Connecticut. Sherpa was awesome!! Their sub contractor was Americargo Express and they were awesome!! I would highly recommend this service and most of all I would recommend the driver, Lasha. He was punctual and professional. He picked up and delivered right on schedule and I truly appreciate his commitment. We were sending the car to our grandson for college and he went beyond expectations by delivering after business hours on the day we asked for, if at all possible. Thank you Lasha!!! And thanks to Sherpa and Americargo Express! Everything went perfectly!

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Connecticut Shipping Prices

Distance

Longer distances naturally increase shipping costs. A cross-country transport from Connecticut to California costs significantly more than a regional move to neighboring states.

Route

Routes along major highways like I-95 or I-84 cost less due to easier access. Remote or rural Connecticut locations require additional travel time, increasing prices.

Season

Summer and early fall see peak demand for car shipping. Winter months typically offer lower rates due to reduced snowbird migration and college student moves.

Vehicle Type

Larger vehicles like SUVs and trucks weigh more and occupy extra trailer space. This increases fuel consumption and limits carrier capacity, raising shipping costs accordingly.

Traffic Patterns

Holiday periods and summer weekends create heavy traffic congestion. Scheduling shipments during off-peak times helps carriers maintain efficiency and can reduce your overall cost.

Carrier Availability

High-demand seasons mean fewer available carriers and longer wait times. Booking early or choosing flexible dates helps secure better rates and faster service.

Open vs Enclosed

Open trailers expose vehicles to weather but cost less. Enclosed transport provides maximum protection for luxury or classic cars at a premium price.

Population Density

Dense urban areas like Hartford or New Haven may have higher rates. Suburban locations with easier truck access often offer more competitive pricing options.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping your car during off-peak seasons can significantly reduce costs. Even scheduling a few weeks outside busy periods like summer or holidays makes a difference. Plan ahead to take advantage of lower demand and better rates.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Offering a five-day window for pickup and delivery gives carriers more scheduling options. This flexibility allows them to optimize routes and pass savings to you. Rigid timelines cost more, while flexible dates reduce your shipping expenses.

Hub City Advantages

Select pickup locations near major Connecticut highways like I-95 or I-91. Highway-accessible spots attract more carriers, increasing competition and lowering prices. Convenient locations mean drivers spend less time on detours, which translates to savings for you.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed options for most vehicles. Unless you’re shipping a luxury or classic car, open transport works perfectly. Your car travels safely while you save money on the more affordable option.

Picturesque view of Connecticut

Car shipping to and from Connecticut is a straightforward process that typically takes 1-7 days depending on your route and distance. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we serve 14 cities across Connecticut, making it easy to schedule pickup and delivery from your preferred location. The auto transport process begins when you request a quote and book your shipment. Our team will then assign a qualified carrier to handle your vehicle with care.

Connecticut’s location in the Northeast corridor makes it a popular hub for car shipping routes. The state’s compact size and well-maintained highways allow for efficient pickup and delivery. However, winter weather can occasionally impact timelines, so planning ahead during snowy months is recommended. Our drivers are experienced with Connecticut’s roads and traffic patterns, ensuring smooth transport whether you’re shipping to or from major cities like Hartford, New Haven, or Stamford.

The shipping process involves four simple steps: First, get your free quote online. Second, prepare your vehicle by removing personal items and documenting its condition. Third, meet the driver for vehicle inspection and pickup. Finally, receive your car at the destination and complete a final inspection. Our auto transport service handles all the logistics, giving you peace of mind throughout the entire Connecticut car shipping experience.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

CT Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

When planning car shipping to Connecticut, understanding state vehicle requirements helps ensure a smooth transition. Connecticut requires all newly registered vehicles to pass an emissions test within 60 days of registration if the vehicle is model year 1997 or newer and not exempt [CT DMV]. Vehicles must also undergo a VIN verification at a DMV office when registering from out-of-state [CT DMV].

Connecticut law limits window tint darkness, requiring front side windows to allow at least 35% light transmission, while rear windows have no restriction [CT DMV]. The state mandates minimum liability insurance coverage of 25/50/25, meaning $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage [CT Insurance Department]. These requirements differ from many states, so verify your policy before auto transport arrival.

Connecticut winters demand vehicle preparation. Consider installing winter tires before or immediately after your car shipping arrives, as snow and ice are common from December through March. Salt used on roads can cause rust, so regular undercarriage washing is recommended. New residents should register their vehicle within 60 days of establishing residency and obtain a Connecticut driver’s license within 30 days [CT DMV]. Planning your auto transport during milder months can help avoid winter weather complications during delivery.

College Car Shipping

College & University Car Shipping in Connecticut

Connecticut is home to several prestigious universities, including Yale University in New Haven, the University of Connecticut in Storrs, and Wesleyan University in Middletown [University]. When shipping a vehicle to campus, students should verify parking permit requirements and availability well in advance, as many schools have limited on-campus parking [University]. First-year students at some Connecticut colleges face parking restrictions, so confirm eligibility before arranging transport. Consider timing your vehicle shipment to arrive after move-in day to avoid campus congestion. For students heading home during winter or summer breaks, explore local storage facilities near campus or inquire about reduced-rate parking programs some universities offer during extended breaks [University]. Connecticut’s compact size makes it easy to access major cities and airports without a car, so evaluate whether you truly need a vehicle on campus before shipping.

I did a lot of research before choosing Sherpa Auto Transport and I’m really glad I did. They shipped my car from CT to CA, and the process was smooth from start to finish. A carrier was secured within 24 hours of booking, pickup was confirmed within another 24 hours, and my car left CT on a Saturday and arrived in San Diego the following Thursday. Communication for both pickup and drop-off was clear and helpful, and the actual pickup and delivery were quick and professional. The car arrived in the same condition as it was before shipping, with no issues at all. I’d definitely use again.

My interactions with Sherpa’s team were exceptional. Every time I called, I was greeted by friendly and knowledgeable representatives. Emails were answered promptly. The quote they provided was very reasonable, and the final cost matched the initial quote with no surprises. The transport experience was smooth. The vehicles were picked up on a Monday morning and delivered by Friday. Both vehicles arrived in perfect condition. Overall, the cost was well justified by the high-quality service I received.

Yelp
I needed to transport a car from CT to NC. I knew nothing about auto transport so I turned to Google. I was very nervous about doing something like this. I can now tell you this was one of the easiest transactions I’ve ever done. Sherpa responded very quickly to any questions I had. They kept me posted every step of the way. The driver called and texted me with his pickup estimates and delivery estimates. The car arrived in 2 days, perfect condition. I would definitely use them again if the need arises.

I used Sherpa to transport my jeep grand Cherokee from Rocky Hill, Connecticut to Largo Florida. It was a seamless process. Everything that was promised from pick up to delivery was right on point. The driver was very professional kept me informed of pick up time travel time and delivery time. I would highly recommend them. I used Montway Transport system to get my car to Connecticut and the whole process was a fiasco. It was like night and day again I would highly recommend a Sherpa.

Sherpa was an excellent choice to ship my car from Connecticut to Colorado. Their quote was competitive with the others. I liked their price guarantee. They were not phased by lack of advanced notice. The car was picked up little more than 1 day after I commited to the shipment. The truck driver was courteous, professional, and just nice. The car was delivered just 3 days later. It was in perfect shape. It was the best experience I could have hoped for.

  • Cross-country routes: 7-10 days (Connecticut to the West Coast)

Yes, your vehicle is insured during transport. All carriers in the Sherpa Auto Transport network are required to carry cargo insurance, which protects your vehicle while it’s being shipped.

For added peace of mind, Sherpa Auto Transport also provides additional coverage on top of the carrier’s insurance. This ensures your vehicle is protected throughout the entire shipping process.

Before transport begins, your carrier will provide proof of insurance. We recommend reviewing the coverage details and taking photos of your vehicle for your records.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

For the best rates and availability, we recommend booking your auto transport 1-2 weeks in advance for standard shipments.

However, timing can vary based on several factors:

  • Peak seasons: During summer months and snowbird season (late fall and early spring), book 3-4 weeks ahead to secure your preferred dates
  • Last-minute needs: We can often accommodate rush shipments with 2-3 days notice, though options may be limited
  • Flexible schedules: Booking further in advance gives you more carrier options and better pricing

The earlier you book, the more time we have to find the perfect carrier match for your vehicle and route. Contact us today for a free quote and personalized timeline recommendations.

The Price Lock Promise means the price we quote you is the price you pay. No surprises. No hidden fees.

When you book with Sherpa Auto Transport, we lock in your rate from the start. Your quote won’t increase after you confirm your order. What you see is what you get.

Many car shipping companies quote a low price to get your business, then raise it later with extra charges. We don’t do that. Our Price Lock Promise protects you from unexpected costs and gives you peace of mind.

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket.

While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.
