Factors that affect Melbourne Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Melbourne’s location on Florida’s Space Coast affects car shipping costs. Longer distances, such as shipping from the Northeast or West Coast, typically result in higher prices due to increased fuel consumption and time on the road.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to Melbourne. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers protection from Florida’s occasional harsh weather and is ideal for high-value or classic vehicles.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Melbourne’s proximity to major highways like I-95 can reduce costs. However, shipping to or from more remote areas in Brevard County may increase prices due to additional time and fuel needed for transport.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to Melbourne due to the space they occupy on the carrier and their impact on fuel efficiency.
- Seasonal Factors: Melbourne’s popularity as a snowbird destination can affect car shipping prices. Winter months often see increased demand and potentially higher costs for auto transport services to and from the area.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to ship to Melbourne. Non-running cars require special equipment for loading and unloading, which increases the overall cost of transport.
- Flexibility: Being flexible with pickup and delivery dates can lead to more competitive pricing for car shipping to Melbourne. Rush or guaranteed delivery services typically come at a premium.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Melbourne, FL. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Melbourne car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundled pickups along I-95 or I-4.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is the most cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Melbourne, FL. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed shipping.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-95. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Melbourne auto transport. Consider weekday shipping for potentially lower prices.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak seasons like summer and holidays when shipping a car to or from Melbourne. Off-peak times may offer more competitive rates.
- Prepare your vehicle: Ensure your car is in good working condition before shipping. This can prevent delays and additional costs during the auto transport process.

Melbourne Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When relocating to or from Melbourne, FL, there are several important factors to consider regarding your vehicle and the moving process. For car shipping to Melbourne, it’s crucial to be aware of Florida’s vehicle requirements. Florida does not have a state vehicle inspection program, which simplifies the process for new residents. However, you should ensure your vehicle meets the state’s emissions standards.
If you’re using auto transport services to ship a car to Melbourne, remember to remove your SunPass transponder before shipping. This toll collection device is widely used in Florida, and leaving it in your vehicle during transport could result in unexpected charges. Upon arrival, you’ll need to register your vehicle within 30 days. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles handles vehicle registration, which can be done online or in person.
For those moving to Melbourne, setting up utilities is a crucial step. Florida Power & Light is the primary electricity provider, while the City of Melbourne manages water services. For internet, you have options like AT&T, Spectrum, and HughesNet. Don’t forget to update your voter registration and, if applicable, enroll your children in the Brevard Public Schools system.
Melbourne’s climate is something to consider when using car shipping services. The city experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters. If you’re shipping a car to Melbourne during hurricane season (June to November), be prepared for potential delays. The city is well-connected by major roads like I-95 and US-1, making it accessible for auto transport companies.
Whether you’re moving to or from Melbourne, remember to:
- Forward your mail
- Cancel or transfer local memberships
- Update your address with banks and other important institutions
- Familiarize yourself with Melbourne’s parking regulations
By considering these factors and using reliable car shipping services, your move to or from Melbourne, FL can be a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Melbourne?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Melbourne?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Melbourne?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Reviews from our Florida Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Florida customers:
“Spoke with Josh and decided even though he was the first of many I could have called I would go with his company. First off he spoke English with no accent which to my ears was a blessing. `Over time I spoke with him about concerns which arose from a husband who had a stroke and was nervous about things, Josh was very understanding, and once I spoke to another associate he was pleasant as well, I would give the name to all that would ask for a good broker for any one looking to ship their car. The transport driver was also very pleasant. Flaviu was great.”
“At two different times, I spoke to two people who were both very helpful and knowledgeable. Price-wise, Sherpa Auto Transport was the same as everyone. They were all within the same ballpark of each other. But I felt they were more comfortable after speaking to them. Also, I could see why they had the reviews because they were exactly like it was when talking to them. And everything was smooth. They offered a free car wash. Everything was wonderful. I submitted the thing through online, and they sent an email back with the quote. It was a day later, they called to go over a couple of things. I’m in South Florida and the car would go to Boston, and the tires in Florida were not the type of tires I need for winter up north. So, that would cause a delay because we had to wait for the tires to come in. She said, “No problem. I’ll make a note in the system so we can still hold on to the quote we gave you and you don’t lose the price. And as soon as you know when the tires will be in and when you can do this, just let us know.””
“If you’ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn’t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that.”
“The rep explained everything very nicely and gave us all the information. He answered all of our questions. It was a couple of days later when they had the driver lined up. They made all the arrangements with our friend in Florida for him to meet the truck to load the vehicle. They did all the legwork for us and we didn’t even have to think about it. The driver was wonderful. When he went to unload my truck, it didn’t start and that scared the living daylights out of him. But he was wonderful about it and he kept his sense of humor. The next time he turned the key, it started. He was super friendly and really nice. We really enjoyed working with him. The quote was right in line with everyone else price-wise. The final cost was right where they said it would be. It was worth every penny and more. It was an absolutely flawless and stress-free experience. Communication was excellent and everything was exactly as promised.”
“I asked Sherpa for an enclosed container to transport a car versus the open carrier. The first one they got fell through but within two hours, they found another. They picked the car up on Saturday morning and I got it Monday morning. So, I was pleased with that. But what I was more pleased with was them being honest with me. They had good reviews, too and this contract carrier they used did a nice job. My vehicle was transported from Florida to Virginia and I was told when they were going to pick it up. After they picked it up, I heard from the driver in the afternoon on Sunday. I was told that they could be here the next morning and said they’d be here at 8:00 a.m, and they were actually here about 7:50, which was even better. So, they came when they said they were going to come. They also said they’d call at least 12 hours before delivery but they called a little longer than that period, which was even better to get a little more time. All in all, everybody did what they said they were going to do and I was pleased.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Melbourne, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
