Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.

  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey affects car shipping costs. Transporting a vehicle to or from Punta Gorda, FL, to nearby cities like Fort Myers or Tampa will be less expensive than shipping to distant locations like New York or California.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Punta Gorda. While enclosed trailers offer extra protection, they’re typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Location Accessibility: Punta Gorda’s proximity to I-75 makes it relatively easy to access, which can help keep shipping costs down. However, if you’re shipping to or from a more remote area away from major highways, expect higher prices.
  • Seasonal Factors: Punta Gorda’s warm climate makes it a popular destination, especially during winter months. This increased demand can lead to higher car shipping prices during peak seasons.
  • Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks cost more to ship than compact cars. Also, inoperable vehicles require special equipment for loading, increasing the overall shipping cost.
  • Flexibility: If you can be flexible with your pickup and delivery dates, you may find better rates for car transport to or from Punta Gorda. Rush or guaranteed delivery services typically come at a premium.

Understanding these factors can help you better estimate the cost of shipping your car to or from Punta Gorda, FL. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Punta Gorda car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundled pickups along I-75 or US-41.
  • Choose open transport: Open car shipping is the most cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Punta Gorda, FL. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed shipping.
  • Strategic pickup/drop-off: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-75 or US-41. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better pricing options. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more affordable car shipping services to or from Punta Gorda.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak shipping seasons like summer and early fall. Winter months often see lower demand for auto transport in Florida, potentially resulting in better rates for shipping a car to or from Punta Gorda.

Punta Gorda, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Punta Gorda?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Punta Gorda. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Punta Gorda?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Punta Gorda?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Punta Gorda?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Punta Gorda

When planning car shipping to or from Punta Gorda, FL, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather patterns that can impact your auto transport experience. Punta Gorda’s subtropical climate brings unique challenges and opportunities for those looking to ship a car to this charming Florida city.

Unlike northern states, Punta Gorda doesn’t face severe winter conditions. This means you won’t need to worry about snow tires or icy roads when scheduling your car transport. However, the area’s warm and humid climate presents its own set of considerations:

  • Hurricane Season: From June to November, be aware of potential tropical storms. While car shipping companies monitor weather conditions, it’s wise to plan your auto transport outside this period if possible.
  • Summer Heat: Punta Gorda’s summers are hot and humid. When shipping a car during these months, consider using a sunshade to protect your vehicle’s interior. Also, avoid leaving heat-sensitive items in the car during transport.
  • Rainy Season: May through October sees increased rainfall. Ensure your vehicle is water-tight before shipping to prevent any moisture-related issues.

Beyond weather, Punta Gorda car shipping can be influenced by seasonal trends:

  • Snowbird Season: From late fall to early spring, car transport demand increases as part-time residents return. Book your auto transport services well in advance during this period.
  • Holiday Rush: The weeks around major holidays often see a spike in car shipping requests. Plan ahead to secure your preferred dates.
  • Off-Peak Savings: Consider shipping a car during the less busy summer months for potentially lower rates and more flexible scheduling.

By keeping these factors in mind, you can ensure a smooth and efficient car shipping experience to or from Punta Gorda, FL. Remember, a reputable car shipping company like Sherpa Auto Transport can provide additional guidance tailored to your specific needs and timeline.

“The quote that I was given by Sherpa when I needed to move a car from Florida to Michigan was fine and it was the final payout. The reps were great and they called back after the car was delivered to make sure everything went alright. Also, the driver was a very nice man. Sherpa handled everything very professionally and did exactly what they were supposed to.”

“First time to ship an automobile in my life. Looking for excellent rating from BBB. Took a while to research because I want a reliable, honest company. Found Sherpa with A+ rating. Talked to a guy name Shane. Made me feel very relax because He is too friendly, courteous, well experience and very confident which made me feel comfortable during transaction. It didn’t take me too long to get my date I wanted to sent my car from Crestview, Florida to Denver Colorado. I gave Shane the date May 23rd I asked for and the driver arrived on that day I asked for. The dispatcher from the company assigned for me were incredible, the lady dispatcher were on top of informing me on date when the driver will come to pick my car. Also I’ve been receiving email from Sherpa information about facts what to expect during the time I will get the car till it arrived to my son`s place. The drivers they hired were so experienced and courteous as well as the dispatcher. I asked the driver if I can put a little gift to my daughter in the trunk and it arrived safely. It took only 2 days to reach the destination as stated by Shane and the sweet drivers. Shane said the price of my shipment is about $1,550 and because I am in military dependent I think I got $50.00 dollars refund. I would say that this Sherpa company is really true, honest to what they say, no hidden fees when my son paid the rest I owed to them, they even offered 20.00 dollars free washing that I did not expect but I just didn’t use it cuz I prefer my son to wash it???? I am real customer not hired phony one. Just like anybody out there who is afraid to be rip off or have bad experience from auto shipping I would gladly says that I am fortunate, blessed to find an excellent service and right freight company to transport my car. My car is one of the investment I need to make sure being taken care of and arrive safely and no damage and with the price I got is equal to peace of mind I got after knowing it took only 2 days and it was received by my son safely with no damage and the company they hire are also well experience. Ask for Shane the guy who do transaction with me. He`s really nice, sweet person. Thank you and God Bless for job well done. I highly recommend them as a broker company. They do excellent job????”

“My fiancée is a wizard when it comes to doing her due diligence and finding the best companies and reading reviews. I asked her to pull her magic and let me know what she thought, and Sherpa was in the top five transport companies and were actually the first ones to answer the phone or respond to my call. Joseph was the gentleman that I talked to. He was very professional and friendly. He made me feel very comfortable with using the company to broker the deal for me. Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic. We got that place lined up. It was a few miles away from my house. They called me numerous times when they were on the way and got there. The car was dirty, but I expected it to be. It was raining and it was an open truck. But other than that, no damage to the vehicle. The brothers were incredibly friendly and professional people that if I had to use anybody again, I would recommend them and Sherpa. I was very worried throughout the process because I have never purchased a vehicle that I have never seen before, or even driven or heard it idle. They got it to me and it was in good shape. And everything was good. I enjoyed it. Plus they were cool. They had a very exotic, classic car on the truck and they had to offload it to get my car off. They opened the doors and let me peek my head in and take a look at it, and I drooled a bit at how cool the car was. Sherpa`s quote was better than anything that I had received other than ones that were scams. I`ve never done this before. I just signed up online and I was hammered with emails and phone calls from a lot of people that were trying to, “Oh, I`ll beat this price. I`ll do this price.†And I was getting quotes that seemed too good to be true, and they were, because once I went and got my fiancée to do her magic and look these particular companies up, she was like, “Yeah, that`s gonna be a no. Each one of those has terrible reviews and they`re scams.†Because they quoted me 500 bucks, $600, that type of stuff. What Sherpa quoted me wasn`t gonna fluctuate. If it did, they would apply money towards it if need be. It was right on the money. The transport was part of my car purcahsing process that was the fastest, streamlined and very much worth the money that I paid for.”

“Our daughter was moving from Florida to California for a transfer with her job and she needed to ship a 2010 Toyota RAV4. She looked at a few transport companies online and contacted one company. They took a deposit and sent the contract. But we didn’t like the terms of their contract at all and they didn’t have a very good rating on the Better Business Bureau. Then, we found Sherpa and we went with them. We’re very happy with our experience from start to finish. Their name is very cool and certainly good marketing on their part because it’s easy to remember. The customer service rep we had answered very quickly and explained the whole process. He told us a little bit about how the industry works and a little bit about how we don’t pay a deposit until we see the contract. The contract was just attached to the quote so we could take a look at the whole thing and see what we were getting into. Then we called back and told them to go ahead and look for a driver for us. It was a very easy transaction and their people were very good to talk to. They didn’t pester us, they told us what we needed to know, and were very professional. The cost was slightly higher but we liked their betting process. We felt like we were probably going to get a better-quality driver with valid insurance so to us, it was worth a little bit more money. It was certainly something we could live with because we would then have an assurance that we were getting somebody who we really wanted to trust our car to. And the terms of the contract were quite reasonable, especially compared to the other one we looked at before. We were working under a pretty tight deadline around the holidays, so we were concerned that things might be delayed. But Sherpa found someone and about half an hour later, we were meeting with the driver to drop the car off. Sherpa had to pay a free-hand to get someone to do the transport but they didn’t pass the cost on to us, which was very wonderful. The driver was very reputable and he was taking a lot of care documenting the car`s condition before it got on the truck. Also, the route from Florida to California was the only run that he did, so that made us feel better. We met him again with our daughter on the other end and he was very professional as well. He delivered the car right on time and very close to our daughter`s apartment. Everything was perfect. We would use Sherpa again and we would recommend them.”

“I needed to send a car from California to my daughter in New York. I looked at about 3 companies and went with Sherpa because the reviews were good. I liked the price-lock guarantee and that’s the main reason I went with them. The driver was supposed to pick up the car at my apartment in San Francisco. He said he couldn’t come to San Francisco because of the size of his truck so I had to go meet him at a truck stop outside San Francisco. I got there about 15 minutes before he got there. There was somebody else waiting for him, and they needed to have their car moved, too. So, he attended to them, and after that he attended to me. He was a nice guy. The car got to New York earlier. They couldn’t go to Staten Island and said they would meet my daughter at Newark. My daughter went there at the time the driver said he was gonna be there but he did not show up. She ended up waiting at the mall for almost 4 hours and missed class before the driver finally showed up. Their cost was expensive, but Sherpa did it. I may have gotten it cheaper somewhere else. As a matter of fact, I had moved a car from Denver to Indiana. I used a company somewhere in Florida, and I was very happy with that. I had wanted to use them this time and I called them. They gave me a cheaper quote than Sherpa. They had the vehicle for two weeks, but they couldn’t find a driver. In the car-moving business, most of them will give you a quote and tell you that first of all, the time and the price are not guaranteed. It’s all within a framework. If they had told me, “Hey, he’s not gonna come to your apartment in San Francisco,†I would understand that. If they had told me that, “Hey, he’s not gonna to Staten Island,†I would understand that too. But the rep at Sherpa answered all my questions. He sent me a quote which I reviewed and liked. It took me some time to get back to him, but the book was guaranteed. The carrier ended up charging more and Sherpa did not charge me anymore. I did not pay anything upfront and Sherpa just dealt with the carrier directly. That was very honorable of them. On top of that, they gave me a rebate because I’m a civil servant and my daughter is a student. I got $100 Visa gift card sent to me after the fact. I would use Sherpa again. They were all good. They were better than anybody else that I had talked to. In fact, I was gonna use them again for another car but we ended up not moving the car.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Punta Gorda, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
