Factors that affect Tampa Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Tampa's central location in Florida affects shipping costs. Longer distances, such as shipping from Tampa to the Northeast or West Coast, typically cost more than shorter routes within Florida or to neighboring states.
- Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for shipping to or from Tampa. Enclosed trailers, while offering protection from Florida's occasional harsh weather, cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times.
- Pickup and Drop-off Locations: Tampa's urban setting keeps costs lower compared to rural areas. Choosing pickup or delivery points near major highways like I-4 or I-75 can further reduce expenses.
- Seasonal Demand: Tampa's warm climate attracts snowbirds, increasing demand for auto transport in winter months. This can lead to higher prices during peak seasons.
- Vehicle Size: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, common in Florida, may cost more to ship due to their size and weight. Compact cars are generally less expensive to transport.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship. If your car isn't running, perhaps due to Florida's humid climate affecting older vehicles, it will cost more to transport.
- Flexibility: Opting for Sherpa's five-day pickup window can save you money. Rush services for quicker pickup in Tampa will increase the price.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your shipment at least two weeks in advance. This increases the chances of carriers bundling your vehicle with others in Tampa, potentially lowering costs.
- Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and greatest flexibility for negotiating prices. It's ideal for most vehicles, unless enclosed transport is necessary.
- Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-4 or I-75. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues. A lighter vehicle can mean lower shipping costs.
- Be flexible with dates: The more adaptable you are with pickup and delivery times, the more options you'll have. This flexibility can lead to better pricing from carriers.
- Consider seasonal timing: Tampa's busiest moving seasons are typically summer and early fall. Shipping during off-peak times may result in lower rates due to decreased demand.
- Prepare your vehicle: Ensure your car is in good working condition. A vehicle that can be driven on and off the carrier easily may be more attractive to transporters, potentially influencing your rate.

How does Tampa Car Shipping Work?
Navigating the car shipping process to or from Tampa, Florida, can be a breeze with the right approach. Here's a step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth experience:
- Get an instant quote: Start by obtaining an instant quote from Sherpa Auto Transport. This will give you a clear idea of costs based on factors like your vehicle type, pickup and delivery locations, and preferred shipping method.
- Book your shipment: Once you're happy with the quote, lock in your shipment. Sherpa provides flexible pickup and delivery windows to suit your schedule.
- Prepare your vehicle: Before the pickup date, wash your car thoroughly. This is especially important in Tampa's humid climate, as it helps identify any existing damage. Remove personal items and ensure your gas tank is no more than a quarter full.
- Consider Tampa's weather: Tampa's subtropical climate means hot summers and mild winters. If shipping during hurricane season (June to November), be prepared for potential delays and consider enclosed transport for added protection.
- Be aware of local routes: Tampa's major highways include I-4, I-75, and I-275. Familiarize yourself with these routes as they may impact pickup and delivery locations.
- Meet the carrier: On pickup day, you or an authorized representative will meet the carrier, hand over the keys, and perform an inspection.
- Track your shipment: While your vehicle is in transit, Sherpa will provide regular updates on its status.
- Receive your vehicle: Upon arrival, inspect your vehicle again and pay any remaining balance.
Remember, Tampa's bustling port and proximity to major highways make it a hub for auto transport. However, traffic can be heavy, especially during peak tourist seasons. Plan accordingly and allow for flexibility in your schedule.
