Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Winter Garden customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The company we used through Sherpa was Muscle Auto Transport, and we had a phenomenal experience. Sherpa made it so easy. I wasn’t there for the pick-up, but my mother-in-law was and she had everything she needed. The drivers, Sergio and Mark, were great. They were super kind to her. They were very thorough according to what my mother-in-law said. They were very flexible with us. Also, we did have some items in the car. It was less than 100 pounds, but they were more than willing to work with us. So, we were very happy. If I were ever to do it again, I’d go with Sherpa.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa’s price lock promise was a good lock in. That was a plus on their side. They were the only ones that I saw that offered it, which might have helped me in that decision besides flipping a few coins. I spoke with the guy who set it all up for me and he sounded nice, professional and sincere, and that was also helpful. I was kept informed of where the car was and when it was expected. Sherpa worked with me with the payment, the pickup and the drop-off. They were always there when I called. It was excellent. I will use them again when I need to get my car back to Winter Garden.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I picked Sherpa because they were the only ones that answered the phone and said their company name and they have the price lock thing where people aren’t gonna get charged anything extra, because I read a bunch of horror stories about that. The Sherpa guy was nice. They were a bit more than some of the other places, but none of the other guys that answered the phone even said the company they were affiliated with. They were rude on the phone as well. I was skeptical because I read a bunch of reviews. Dealing with auto transport people was interesting, but it all worked out nice. I’m in Meridian, Idaho and Sherpa took the car to Winter Garden, Florida, which is right outside of Orlando.”

Car Transport Distance
Pickup and Drop Off Location

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Winter Garden, FL significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Winter Garden. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers extra protection from Florida’s occasional heavy rains and potential hurricanes for high-value vehicles.
  • Location Accessibility: Winter Garden’s proximity to Orlando and major highways like Florida’s Turnpike and SR 429 can help keep shipping costs down. Rural areas or locations far from main routes may incur additional fees.
  • Seasonal Demand: Florida’s warm climate makes Winter Garden attractive year-round, but shipping costs may increase during peak seasons like summer and winter when snowbirds are on the move.
  • Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower prices. Rush or guaranteed delivery services to Winter Garden will increase the cost of your auto transport.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost of shipping to or from Winter Garden.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Winter Garden, FL. For a more detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Winter Garden car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like Florida’s Turnpike or SR-429. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
  • Lighten your load: Remove all personal items from your vehicle before transport. This reduces weight and potential liability issues.
  • Stay flexible: The more adaptable you are with pickup and delivery dates, the better your chances of securing a competitive rate for your Winter Garden auto transport needs.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons in Winter Garden, such as summer months or holiday periods, when demand and prices tend to be higher.

Winter Garden, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Winter Garden?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Winter Garden. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Winter Garden?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Winter Garden?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Winter Garden?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Reviews from our Florida Customers

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Florida customers:

Consumer Affairs

“The guys that run Sherpa are very communicative and they respond quickly. They got me a price I expected and it didn’t go up at all. They were also able to find me a driver who was excellent within the timeframe that I needed. Sherpa`s cut on my deal was around $300. You can find it cheaper if you want to but I had a specific need. I had to get my car out of my garage quickly and up to Pennsylvania, and they were able to get the job done. I would definitely recommend them.”

“Our daughter was moving from Florida to California for a transfer with her job and she needed to ship a 2010 Toyota RAV4. She looked at a few transport companies online and contacted one company. They took a deposit and sent the contract. But we didn’t like the terms of their contract at all and they didn’t have a very good rating on the Better Business Bureau. Then, we found Sherpa and we went with them. We’re very happy with our experience from start to finish. Their name is very cool and certainly good marketing on their part because it’s easy to remember. The customer service rep we had answered very quickly and explained the whole process. He told us a little bit about how the industry works and a little bit about how we don’t pay a deposit until we see the contract. The contract was just attached to the quote so we could take a look at the whole thing and see what we were getting into. Then we called back and told them to go ahead and look for a driver for us. It was a very easy transaction and their people were very good to talk to. They didn’t pester us, they told us what we needed to know, and were very professional. The cost was slightly higher but we liked their betting process. We felt like we were probably going to get a better-quality driver with valid insurance so to us, it was worth a little bit more money. It was certainly something we could live with because we would then have an assurance that we were getting somebody who we really wanted to trust our car to. And the terms of the contract were quite reasonable, especially compared to the other one we looked at before. We were working under a pretty tight deadline around the holidays, so we were concerned that things might be delayed. But Sherpa found someone and about half an hour later, we were meeting with the driver to drop the car off. Sherpa had to pay a free-hand to get someone to do the transport but they didn’t pass the cost on to us, which was very wonderful. The driver was very reputable and he was taking a lot of care documenting the car`s condition before it got on the truck. Also, the route from Florida to California was the only run that he did, so that made us feel better. We met him again with our daughter on the other end and he was very professional as well. He delivered the car right on time and very close to our daughter`s apartment. Everything was perfect. We would use Sherpa again and we would recommend them.”

“I needed to send a car from California to my daughter in New York. I looked at about 3 companies and went with Sherpa because the reviews were good. I liked the price-lock guarantee and that’s the main reason I went with them. The driver was supposed to pick up the car at my apartment in San Francisco. He said he couldn’t come to San Francisco because of the size of his truck so I had to go meet him at a truck stop outside San Francisco. I got there about 15 minutes before he got there. There was somebody else waiting for him, and they needed to have their car moved, too. So, he attended to them, and after that he attended to me. He was a nice guy. The car got to New York earlier. They couldn’t go to Staten Island and said they would meet my daughter at Newark. My daughter went there at the time the driver said he was gonna be there but he did not show up. She ended up waiting at the mall for almost 4 hours and missed class before the driver finally showed up. Their cost was expensive, but Sherpa did it. I may have gotten it cheaper somewhere else. As a matter of fact, I had moved a car from Denver to Indiana. I used a company somewhere in Florida, and I was very happy with that. I had wanted to use them this time and I called them. They gave me a cheaper quote than Sherpa. They had the vehicle for two weeks, but they couldn’t find a driver. In the car-moving business, most of them will give you a quote and tell you that first of all, the time and the price are not guaranteed. It’s all within a framework. If they had told me, “Hey, he’s not gonna come to your apartment in San Francisco,†I would understand that. If they had told me that, “Hey, he’s not gonna to Staten Island,†I would understand that too. But the rep at Sherpa answered all my questions. He sent me a quote which I reviewed and liked. It took me some time to get back to him, but the book was guaranteed. The carrier ended up charging more and Sherpa did not charge me anymore. I did not pay anything upfront and Sherpa just dealt with the carrier directly. That was very honorable of them. On top of that, they gave me a rebate because I’m a civil servant and my daughter is a student. I got $100 Visa gift card sent to me after the fact. I would use Sherpa again. They were all good. They were better than anybody else that I had talked to. In fact, I was gonna use them again for another car but we ended up not moving the car.”

“I`m in Florida and I needed a SUV that was in South Carolina. I had an accident and I wasn’t gonna go back there to get the car so I needed it transported down. I checked online on the Consumer and Better Business Bureau and came up with a transport company then I went by with Consumer Reports. When I called Sherpa, it seemed like a good deal so I went with them. Sherpa`s customer service reps called and kept in contact with me. I was told that the SUV would be picked up on Friday and will be delivered between Monday and Wednesday. I got the vehicle on Monday morning and when it was delivered, the driver gave me a call. He said that they will be here within the hour and they were. He was courteous and the vehicle arrived in good condition. Also, the quote I was provided was fair. When we negotiated the price, that was the set price and there was no change. I was given a high quality of service and I was very happy. I would be a repeat customer.”

“I had a good experience with Sherpa in 2020, shipping a car from Florida to Montana, to Bozeman. The company was reliable. They picked up the car when they said they would and when I met with the particular drivers, they were solid guys. I developed a lot of confidence and entrusted him with my car. Four years later, the same car was going to Bozeman from Florida and I called Sherpa. Again, they picked it up on time and lo and behold, it was the same drivers that drove four years prior. I was very happy. The car arrived on time and I didn`t see any damage to the vehicle. It picked up dirt along the way though because it`s an outside carrier. Some of my friends had problems with the largest carrier going East and West. So, I volunteered Sherpa`s name. I don`t know who they used but I would have used Sherpa. In the car transport business, you hear horror stories of cars not being picked up and delivered in time, and waiting in car lots for weeks on end, but I`ve never experienced that with Sherpa. My two times using them have been very positive. People can make their own decision but from a price point standpoint, it`s about the same. And if somebody is a lot cheaper, buyer beware. Sherpa’s price went up, like everything else with gas prices going up, but it was competitive and fair. The only thing is, sometimes I`m persistent, so I’m gonna make calls. If I`ve got a question, I`m gonna chase somebody to get an answer and sometimes, I had to make a second or third call just to follow up and get the answer I was looking for from Sherpa.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Winter Garden, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]

When choosing a car shipping company for Winter Garden, FL, look for providers with a solid reputation and experience. Ensure they offer adequate insurance coverage and have a good safety record with the FMCSA. Consider customer service quality, pricing, and service range. Local knowledge is a plus – a company familiar with Winter Garden’s unique charm and layout can navigate efficiently. Be wary of unusually low prices or demands for large upfront deposits. A reputable auto transport service will provide clear communication, transparent pricing, and reliable scheduling. By considering these factors, you’ll find a trustworthy partner to ship your car to or from the heart of Florida’s citrus country.
