Key Takeaways on Shipping your Car from Florida to Florida

Auto Transport from Florida to Florida

Shipping a car within Florida typically costs between $450 and $1,050 and takes just 0 to 2 days, depending on your specific pickup and delivery locations.

Our Florida & Florida Customers

Sherpa Auto Transport backs every Florida to Florida shipment with a Price Lock Promise, a 4.86-star rating from over 9,690 reviews, and a BBB A+ rating — so you always know what you’re paying and who’s handling your car.

Factors that Impact Cost

Distance is the biggest cost driver for intrastate Florida shipments — shipping from Miami to Pensacola (nearly 700 miles) costs significantly more than a short Tampa to Orlando haul.

Tips and Tricks to Save

Avoid Florida’s snowbird season (October–April) if possible, since peak demand drives up prices and reduces carrier availability — even a few weeks’ flexibility can save you money.

How Car Shipping Works

The process is straightforward: get a quote, book your shipment, prepare your vehicle with a quarter tank of gas and no personal items, and a vetted carrier picks up and delivers your car door to door — usually within 3 to 7 days total.

State Insights

Since you’re staying in Florida, your registration and title remain valid — but if you’re moving to a new county, update your address with the FLHSMV within 30 days to keep your records current.

TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

We had two cars to transport from South Florida to San Diego. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated the name of driver and time window. He was an Angel! So kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. The peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa.

I recently used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport my car from Florida to New Jersey. I was very impressed with the level of service I received. They picked the car up on Wednesday afternoon and delivered it to NJ on Friday afternoon in perfect condition. The customer service was also excellent. Brittany called me to again take me through what would happen and reassure me. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a reliable and professional car transport service.

The pickup was in a rural part of Florida and I was concerned that it was off of a major highway. But that didn’t make a difference. Once they made their commitment that they would pick up the car around 4:00 on that Wednesday, they were there on point. They exceeded the expectations in terms of delivery. When they called me, I was at the gas station in Orlando. My uncle placed the Bible on the dash and the service was so good that the Bible was in the exact same spot when the car arrived. Sherpa would be number one on my list without a question.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Florida to Florida Shipping Prices

Distance

Florida intrastate shipments vary widely in distance. Moving a car from Pensacola to Miami is nearly 700 miles, while Tampa to Orlando is under 90 miles — and that difference significantly impacts your final shipping cost.

Route

Florida’s major interstates — like I-75, I-95, and I-4 — keep costs lower because carriers travel them frequently. However, shipping to a small Gulf Coast town or remote Florida Keys location can add extra fees due to limited carrier access.

Season

Florida’s snowbird season (October–April) drives shipping demand through the roof. Expect higher prices and longer wait times during winter months. Summer offers a slower season, meaning better availability and potentially lower rates for intrastate Florida shipments.

Vehicle Type

Shipping a standard sedan within Florida is always cheaper than shipping a truck or SUV. Larger vehicles take up more trailer space, weigh more, burn more fuel, and some carriers simply cannot accommodate oversized trucks or full-size SUVs.

Traffic Considerations

Florida traffic can be brutal during spring break, winter holidays, and Thanksgiving week. Carriers hauling cars across Florida face serious delays during these windows, which can increase costs and slow delivery. Plan your shipment around these high-traffic periods whenever possible.

Carrier Availability

During Florida’s peak snowbird season, carriers fill up fast. You may wait several weeks to secure a truck. In the off-season, wait times shrink to just a few days. Booking early — especially in winter — saves you time and money.

Open vs Enclosed

Most Florida intrastate shipments use open trailers, which are affordable and widely available. If you’re shipping a luxury, classic, or exotic car, consider an enclosed trailer for added protection — especially during Florida’s unpredictable summer storm season. Expect to pay a premium for enclosed transport.

Population Density

Delivering a car to downtown Miami or Orlando’s city center costs more than dropping it off in a surrounding suburb. Tight streets limit large carrier access. Consider meeting your carrier in a nearby suburb with wide roads to save money and avoid scheduling headaches.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping during the off-season can save you money. Florida’s snowbird season drives up demand and prices. Shifting your shipment by even a few weeks outside peak season can lead to noticeably lower rates.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Choosing a five-day pickup and delivery window instead of an exact date gives carriers more scheduling flexibility. That flexibility often translates into lower shipping costs for you, so stay open if your timeline allows.

Hub City Advantages

Carriers travel major highways frequently, so pickup and drop-off near a highway hub means more available drivers and competitive pricing. If your destination is rural, consider meeting a carrier at a nearby hub city to save money.

Open Trailers

Open trailers are the most affordable shipping option and work well for standard vehicles. Enclosed trailers cost more but offer extra protection. Save the enclosed option for luxury or classic cars that need shielding from the elements.

HOW IT WORKS

How does Car Shipping from Florida to Florida Work?

Picturesque view of Florida

Florida to Florida car shipping is a smart solution when you need to move a vehicle within the state. Whether you’re relocating from Miami to Jacksonville, Tampa to Orlando, or anywhere in between, in-state auto transport saves you time and keeps miles off your car. With an average distance of just 340 miles, this route is one of the more straightforward options available — and it comes with a price range of $450 to $1,050 depending on your specific pickup and delivery locations.

The car shipping process starts with a simple quote. Once you book with Sherpa Auto Transport, we match you with a licensed and vetted carrier. You’ll prepare your vehicle by removing personal items, documenting any existing damage, and ensuring the gas tank is about a quarter full. A carrier then picks up your car at your chosen location and delivers it to your destination — all without you having to drive a single mile.

One thing that makes Florida to Florida auto transport unique is the state’s geography. Florida is a long peninsula, so distances between cities can vary widely. Northern Florida cities like Tallahassee are far from southern hubs like Fort Lauderdale. Traffic in major metro areas like Tampa and Miami can also affect pickup and delivery scheduling. Florida’s warm, humid climate is generally easy on vehicles during transport, but summer storm seasons may occasionally cause minor delays. These are all factors a good auto transport company will plan around on your behalf.

In terms of timeline, most Florida to Florida car shipping orders are completed in just 0 to 2 days from the time your vehicle is picked up. The entire process — from booking to delivery — typically takes between 3 and 7 days when factoring in carrier scheduling and dispatch. Sherpa Auto Transport makes the process easy with upfront pricing, no hidden fees, and our Price Lock Promise. Getting started is simple: request a free quote today and let us handle the rest.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

Florida to Florida Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

Shipping a car within the same state may sound simple, but Florida to Florida car shipping still comes with rules you should know. Since you’re staying in Florida, you won’t need to re-register your vehicle or get a new title. Your existing Florida registration stays valid. However, if you’re moving to a new county, update your address with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) within 30 days. This keeps your records current and avoids any issues with renewals.

Florida does not require emissions testing statewide, so there’s no inspection to worry about when your vehicle arrives. The state does enforce window tint laws, though. Front side windows must allow at least 28% of light in, while rear side and back windows can go as dark as 15%. Make sure your tint is compliant before your auto transport is complete. Florida also has no vehicle safety inspection requirement, but your car must still meet federal safety standards.

Florida’s climate is consistent across the state, so you won’t need winter tires or cold-weather modifications for your car. However, if you’re moving to South Florida, be aware of intense heat, heavy rain, and hurricane season. It’s smart to check your car’s coolant levels, wiper blades, and tire pressure after car shipping is complete. Coastal areas also bring salt air, which can speed up rust. Regular washing and waxing help protect your vehicle long-term.

Insurance requirements stay the same for Florida to Florida auto transport. Florida is a no-fault state, meaning drivers must carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Property Damage Liability (PDL) coverage. Your current policy doesn’t need to change, but notify your insurer about your new address. Rates can vary by zip code, especially in high-traffic areas like Miami or Orlando. A quick call to your agent after your car shipping is complete can help make sure you have the right coverage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Florida to Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

Preparing your vehicle for an intrastate Florida car shipment is simple. Follow these key steps to ensure a smooth transport:

  • Clean your car: Wash your vehicle inside and out before pickup. This makes it easier to spot any pre-existing scratches or dents during the inspection.
  • Document the condition: Take clear photos of your vehicle from all angles before handing it over to the carrier. This protects you in the unlikely event of a dispute.
  • Remove personal items: Take out all valuables, toll passes (like SunPass), and any loose or fragile items. Personal belongings are not covered by carrier insurance.
  • Remove exterior accessories: Take off any spoilers, bike racks, or custom add-ons that could be damaged or cause damage during transport.
  • Check fluid levels and tire pressure: Make sure there are no active leaks and that your tires are properly inflated.
  • Leave a quarter tank of gas: Enough fuel is needed to load and unload your vehicle, but a full tank adds unnecessary weight.
  • Disable your car alarm: An alarm that triggers during transport can cause delays and frustration for the carrier.
  • Have a key ready: Provide the carrier with a working key for loading and unloading.

Yes, your vehicle is insured when shipping within Florida with Sherpa Auto Transport. Every carrier we work with is required to carry a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance.

Before your vehicle is ever picked up, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is active and in good standing. We don’t cut corners here — your peace of mind matters to us.

All contracted carriers are also required to add Sherpa Auto Transport as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy. This gives us an extra layer of oversight to protect you throughout your shipment.

Our quotes are all-inclusive, so there are no hidden fees or surprise charges. If you have any questions about coverage, our team is happy to help. Contact us anytime.

The sooner you book, the better. We recommend scheduling your pickup at least two weeks in advance, though booking three to four weeks ahead gives you the most flexibility and the best chance of securing your preferred dates.

Here’s why early booking matters for intrastate Florida shipments:

  • Carrier availability: Florida is a busy shipping corridor, but intrastate routes can have fewer carriers than interstate routes. Booking early ensures you have more options.
  • Bundled shipments: Carriers often group nearby pickups together to maximize efficiency. The earlier you post your shipment, the easier it is for a carrier to bundle your vehicle with others heading the same direction.
  • Seasonal demand: Florida sees heavy snowbird traffic between October and April. If you’re moving during peak season, booking as early as possible is strongly advised.

Need to ship on short notice? Sherpa Auto Transport also offers expedited shipping options, though last-minute bookings may come with higher rates and limited availability. When in doubt, book early and save yourself the stress.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

When shipping a car within Florida, you have two options: open or enclosed auto transport.

Open transport is the most popular and affordable choice. Your vehicle rides on an open-air trailer — the same type used to deliver new cars to dealerships. It’s safe, reliable, and works great for most standard vehicles. The vast majority of Florida-to-Florida shipments use open carriers.

Enclosed transport places your vehicle inside a covered trailer, protecting it from road debris, weather, and dust. The tradeoff? It typically costs 40–60% more than open transport. It’s best suited for:

  • Luxury or exotic vehicles
  • Classic or collector cars
  • Vehicles with custom paint jobs or low ground clearance

For most Florida intrastate moves, open transport is the smart, cost-effective choice. But if your vehicle has high value or sentimental significance, the added peace of mind from enclosed shipping is worth the extra cost.

Not sure which is right for you? Check out our open vs. enclosed auto transport guide for a full breakdown.

Door-to-door service is the most popular and convenient option for intrastate Florida car shipping. Whether you’re moving from Miami to Jacksonville, Tampa to Orlando, or anywhere else in the Sunshine State, we make the process as easy as possible. Get a free quote today and see how simple shipping your car in Florida can be.

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket.

While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.
