Factors that Impact Cost

Distance is the biggest cost factor—cross-country shipments cost significantly more than regional moves—but season, vehicle type, route accessibility, and trailer choice also impact your final price.

Tips and Tricks to Save

The car shipping process is straightforward: get a quote, book your transport, prepare your vehicle by removing personal items and documenting its condition, then meet the carrier for pickup and delivery.

Bloomington’s location near I-69 provides good highway access for carriers, though narrow residential streets near Indiana University’s campus may require meeting drivers at nearby accessible locations.

State Insights

Indiana requires new residents to register vehicles within 60 days, doesn’t mandate emissions testing, and requires minimum liability insurance of 25/50/25, making the transition simpler than many states.

TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

I bought a truck in INdiana and I needed to bring it to Texas. Sherpa`s reps were really helpful and their price was very much lower than the ones that we got. The communication was pretty good and the guy that was driving the trailer texted me when he picked up my vehicle. He couldn`t bring my truck to my house because it`s a residential area. So, he met me at an AutoZone. Other than that, the delivery was very on time and my truck arrived in an amazing condition because he came in a little enclosed trailer.

Some places gave me a higher quote and Sherpa came down a little bit. They had good reviews online and I like the name too. I went with them and they did a good job of keeping me informed. The vehicle went to my daughter out in Washington and everything went well. There was a little bit of delay due to mechanical issues on the truck. They ended up picking up on Christmas Day and the driver was very apologetic about that. With covid, we weren`t doing anything for Christmas so it was no big deal for us.

We needed to ship our Hyundai car 2,000 miles and wasn’t sure who to use. After some research we found SHERPA car carrier to be the best price and had good reviews. I don’t always trust reviews these days because a lot of them are faked but took a chance anyway. I was extremely pleased with SHERPA. We had our car transported fast and safe. No damage at all. We used the open car carrier option. The driver was Gana. Very polite and professional! Very happy with them and I would use them again.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Bloomington, IN Shipping Prices

Distance

Distance plays a major role in shipping costs. The farther your vehicle needs to travel to or from Bloomington, the higher the price. A cross-country shipment from Bloomington to California will cost significantly more than a regional move to Chicago or Indianapolis.

Route

Bloomington’s location near major highways like I-69 affects shipping costs. Routes along well-traveled interstates are cheaper because carriers frequently service these areas. If you’re in a more remote area outside Bloomington, expect slightly higher costs due to the extra distance from main routes.

Season

Shipping costs fluctuate throughout the year. Summer months and early fall see higher demand as families relocate and students move to Indiana University. Winter typically offers lower rates, though weather can cause delays. Book early during peak seasons to secure better pricing.

Vehicle Type

Your vehicle’s size and weight directly impact cost. Standard sedans are the most affordable to ship. SUVs, trucks, and larger vehicles cost more due to their weight, size, and the extra fuel required. They also take up more trailer space, which increases the price.

Traffic Patterns

Heavy travel periods like Thanksgiving week, Christmas, and the start of college semesters can increase costs and transit times. If your schedule allows, avoid these peak traffic times. Shipping during quieter periods often means faster service and better rates.

Carrier Availability

Carrier availability varies by season. During peak times like August when IU students arrive, you may wait several weeks for a carrier. Off-season shipping typically means quicker pickup—sometimes within just a few days. Plan ahead during busy periods.

Open vs Enclosed

Open trailers are the standard and most economical option for vehicle shipping. They’re perfect for everyday cars. Enclosed trailers cost more but provide protection from weather and road debris. Consider enclosed transport for luxury vehicles, classics, or high-value cars.

Population Density

Bloomington is a mid-sized college town with manageable streets, making it easier for carriers to navigate than dense urban centers. If you’re shipping to a major city, consider having your vehicle delivered to a suburban location with easier access. This can save money and simplify the pickup process.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping during off-peak times can significantly reduce your costs. Avoid busy periods like snowbird season when demand spikes. Even shifting your shipment by a few weeks can lead to substantial savings on your Bloomington car transport.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Flexible pickup and delivery dates help you save money. By offering carriers a five-day window instead of exact dates, you’ll receive more competitive quotes. This flexibility allows carriers to optimize their routes, passing savings directly to you.

Hub City Advantages

Bloomington’s proximity to major highways like I-69 offers cost advantages. Choose pickup locations near these main routes for better rates and more carrier options. If shipping to rural areas, consider meeting carriers at nearby highway-accessible cities to reduce costs.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed options and work well for most vehicles. They’re the standard choice for everyday cars. However, if you’re transporting a luxury or classic vehicle, consider enclosed trailers for added protection despite higher costs.
