What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

I was very anxious to ship our car from all the reviews regarding price changes, pick up and delivery date delays, etc…. I have to say Sherpa was seamless and flexible. The price was the price. After we received the exact pick up date, we asked about the ability to adjust the location slightly. It is the carrier’s decision but Sherpa and the carrier were accommodating. The car arrived quickly; it was a CA to MD transport Picked up on Tuesday; delivered on Sunday. Car was in great shape. Thank you, Sherpa

There was good communication between the driver and me. The only hiccup was the pickup location wasn`t my apartment complex. It was nine minutes away, which was fine because the driver paid for an Uber to take me back to my apartment. It was also a couple of hours behind what the original pickup time was, which put me a little bit behind. I had to shift my work schedule around to accommodate the late pick up. But other than that, it was great.

Sherpa Auto Transport was an excellent broker and delivered a very good auto shipment experience. Price was reasonable, arrangements were swift and flexible. The delivery was across the country and incredibly swift. The driver was courteous, friendly. My only wish would be been for door-to-door delivery. I did not realize this would not be the case, and had to take an Uber 20 miles to receive my car. Not a big deal, though, as everything else about the experience was superb.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Rockville, MD Shipping Prices

Distance

Distance plays a major role in shipping costs. The farther your vehicle travels, the more you’ll pay. Shipping from Rockville to nearby states like Virginia or Pennsylvania costs less than cross-country routes to California or Florida.

Route

Your route matters significantly. Rockville sits near I-270 and I-495, major highways that connect to routes across the country. Shipments along these well-traveled corridors cost less than deliveries to remote areas. If you’re shipping to or from a small town, expect higher prices than routes between major cities.

Season

Timing affects your price. Summer months (May through September) see peak demand as families relocate and students move. Winter brings lower prices, especially January and February. Snowbirds heading south in fall and returning north in spring also drive up seasonal costs.

Vehicle Type

Your vehicle’s size and weight impact costs. Sedans and compact cars are the cheapest to ship. SUVs, trucks, and larger vehicles cost more because they take up more trailer space, add weight (increasing fuel costs), and are harder to load. Some carriers can’t accommodate oversized vehicles at all.

Traffic Patterns

Heavy travel periods increase costs and delays. The week before Thanksgiving, major holidays, and summer weekends see congested highways. Book your shipment during off-peak times when possible. Mid-week pickups and deliveries often work better than weekends.

Carrier Availability

Carrier supply affects wait times and pricing. During peak season, you might wait 1-3 weeks for an available carrier. Off-season shipments often find carriers within days. Flexible scheduling helps you secure better rates and faster service.

Open vs Enclosed

Trailer type changes your cost significantly. Open trailers are the standard and most affordable option—perfect for everyday vehicles. Enclosed trailers cost 40-60% more but protect luxury, classic, or exotic cars from weather and road debris. Most Rockville customers choose open transport for regular vehicles.

Population Density

Location accessibility matters. Rockville’s suburban setting with good road access keeps costs reasonable. However, if you need delivery to a congested downtown area or a rural location with narrow roads, expect higher fees. Consider meeting your carrier at an accessible location with easy truck access to save money.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Timing your car shipment during off-peak periods can lead to significant savings. Avoid busy seasons like summer and snowbird migration months. Even shifting your transport by a few weeks can reduce costs, as demand directly impacts pricing in the auto shipping industry.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Offering flexible pickup and delivery windows helps carriers optimize their routes, and they pass those savings to you. By choosing a five-day window instead of exact dates, you give transporters scheduling flexibility. This simple adjustment can lower your overall shipping costs considerably.

Hub City Advantages

Rockville’s proximity to major highways like I-270 and I-495 offers competitive pricing advantages. Choose pickup locations near these transportation corridors for better carrier access and rates. If shipping to rural areas, consider selecting a highway-adjacent city as your destination to reduce costs.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost significantly less than enclosed options and safely transport most vehicles. They’re ideal for standard cars and offer excellent value. However, luxury, classic, or high-end vehicles benefit from enclosed trailers, which provide additional protection from weather and road debris.
