Factors that affect Charlotte Car Shipping Prices

  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Charlotte, NC impacts shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices. For example, shipping from Charlotte to Miami will cost less than shipping from Charlotte to Los Angeles.
  • Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for most customers. Enclosed transport, while offering extra protection, is about 50% more expensive and typically takes longer. It's mainly used for high-value or classic cars that need shelter from weather and road debris.
  • Location Accessibility: Charlotte's urban setting and proximity to major highways like I-85 and I-77 make it easier and cheaper for carriers to access. Rural areas or locations far from main routes may incur additional costs.
  • Scheduling Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window (like Sherpa's five-day option) can reduce costs. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically come with higher prices.
  • Vehicle Specifications: The size, weight, and ground clearance of your vehicle affect shipping costs. Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, generally cost more to transport than standard cars.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles that can roll, brake, and steer are cheaper to ship. Non-running cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the cost.
  • Seasonal Factors: Charlotte's mild climate means less seasonal variation in shipping costs. However, nationwide trends still apply, with higher prices in January and summer months due to increased demand.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your shipment at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling vehicles from Charlotte.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and most flexibility for negotiating prices.
  • Pick strategic locations: Work with Sherpa advisors to find pickup/dropoff spots near major interstates like I-85 or I-77. This can reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid liability issues.
  • Be flexible: Offering a range of dates for pickup and delivery can help you secure better rates. Consider meeting the carrier at easily accessible locations like Charlotte Douglas International Airport or Concord Mills mall for added convenience.
  • Consider seasonal timing: Charlotte's mild climate means year-round shipping is possible, but rates may be lower during off-peak seasons like late fall or early spring.
