TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

Sherpa`s customer service on the front end was great. The only stress I had was waiting to hear that there was going to be a driver available. But the customer service kind of explained the process. The driver was very communicative with both my sister and me. She was where they picked up the car. They picked the car up in a small town in rural PA, and then they dropped it off here where I live just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. I would absolutely recommend the service. It was great.

The rep did a good job educating me on how the industry works and differentiating themselves. He made me aware that Sherpa was the only company who would guarantee the price he was quoting. But the driver seemed to be clueless. We were given specific instruction supposed to give him the check, and he was not aware of that. So, he was hesitant to take it. Sherpa could do a better job educating the driver so there would be no surprises when he shows up. Other than that, working with them worked out fine.

We arranged for Sherpa to pick up a car that my father had owned and they contracted with a driver. The driver picked up the car in California and dropped it off in Central PA as agreed. That took three to four days. The driver could have called us a little bit earlier in terms of pickup and drop-off time. We didn`t have much control over pickup and drop-off times but I can understand why. He was on a tight schedule. That aside, the experience went pretty well. We paid the driver and Sherpa as agreed.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Lancaster, PA Shipping Prices

Distance

Distance plays a major role in your shipping costs. The further your vehicle travels, the more you’ll pay. Shipping from Lancaster to California will cost significantly more than shipping to a neighboring state like New York or Maryland.

Route

Your route matters just as much as distance. Lancaster sits near major highways like I-76 and Route 30, which helps keep costs down. Shipments along these main corridors are cheaper because carriers run these routes regularly. Remote areas with limited highway access will increase your price.

Season

Timing affects your wallet. Summer months and early fall see the highest demand, which drives up prices. Winter tends to be slower and more affordable. If you have flexibility, shipping during off-peak months can save you money.

Vehicle Type

What you ship matters. Standard sedans are the cheapest to transport. SUVs and trucks cost more because they’re heavier (using more fuel) and harder to load. Some trailers can’t even accommodate larger vehicles. The bigger your vehicle, the higher your quote.

Traffic Patterns

Heavy travel periods increase costs and delays. The week before Thanksgiving, holiday weekends, and summer vacation season create road congestion. If possible, avoid these peak travel times. Shipping during quieter periods means faster service and better rates.

Carrier Availability

Carrier availability shifts with demand. During peak season, you might wait several weeks for pickup. Off-season shipping often means pickup within days. Book early during busy periods to secure a carrier and lock in your rate.

Open vs Enclosed

You have two trailer options. Open trailers are standard and affordable—perfect for most vehicles. Enclosed trailers cost more but protect luxury, classic, or exotic cars from weather and road debris. For everyday vehicles, open transport offers the best value.

Population Density

Lancaster’s manageable size works in your favor. The city offers easier access than dense urban centers like Philadelphia or New York City. Tight city streets, parking restrictions, and traffic make deliveries more complex and expensive. If shipping to a major city, consider meeting your carrier in a suburban area with better truck access to save money.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping during off-peak months can significantly reduce costs. Avoid busy periods like snowbird season when demand spikes. Even shifting your shipment by a few weeks can lead to better rates and more carrier availability for your Lancaster route.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Flexible pickup and delivery dates offer real savings. By choosing a five-day window instead of exact dates, you give carriers more scheduling options. This flexibility typically results in lower quotes and faster carrier assignments for your Lancaster shipment.

Hub City Advantages

Lancaster’s proximity to major highways like I-76 and US-30 works in your favor. Choose pickup locations near these routes for better rates. Carriers prefer accessible locations, which means more competition and lower prices for your shipment.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed options and work well for most vehicles. They safely transport standard cars while keeping your budget in check. Reserve enclosed trailers for luxury, classic, or high-value vehicles that need extra protection from weather and road debris.

Open auto transport uses open-air trailers that carry multiple vehicles at once. Your car is exposed to weather and road elements during transit. This is the most common and affordable option, used for about 90% of vehicle shipments.

Choose enclosed transport if you’re shipping a luxury car, classic vehicle, exotic car, or any vehicle with custom paint or modifications.
