TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

This was my first experience in having a car shipped across the country. It was very overwhelming! I researched many companies and kept reading horror stories! The name that kept coming up with great reviews was Sherpa Auto Transport. The price was higher than the estimates from other companies. It was worth every penny! The communication was great before, during and after! It was an all around wonderful experience shipping a car from Texas to Washington. Thank you for everything.

My father was getting rid of his truck and offered it to me. We needed to ship it from Texas up to Washington where I live, and Sherpa was the cheapest way to do it. Sherpa seemed the most transparent about their fees. For the delivery, I received a call then half an hour later, the guy showed up at my door. I live on a pretty wide residential street, but he parked on the major street, brought the car and it was right there.

The final price I paid was exactly what Sherpa told me it was going to be. They picked up the car on a Saturday. They told me it wasn’t gonna be here until the following Saturday, and it was delivered on a Thursday. It went from Texas to Washington State. My experience was very good, very easy, and painless. I did turn in my receipt to get reimbursed for my carwash and I still haven’t heard or seen anything about that. But other than that, everything went wonderfully.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Texas to Washington Shipping Prices

Distance

Texas to Washington is roughly 2,000 miles — a long haul. The greater the distance, the more fuel and drive time required, which directly raises your shipping cost.

Route

This route primarily follows major interstates like I-90 and I-84, keeping costs reasonable. Well-traveled highways mean more carrier options and fewer detours compared to remote or rural routes.

Season

Summer is peak moving season, driving prices up. Winter can bring mountain snow delays along the Pacific Northwest corridor. Spring and fall tend to offer the best balance of availability and lower rates.

Vehicle Type

Shipping a standard sedan from Texas to Washington costs less than shipping a truck or SUV. Larger vehicles take up more trailer space, weigh more, and burn more fuel — all adding to your final price.

Traffic Considerations

Avoid shipping around major holidays like Thanksgiving or July 4th. Heavy traffic slows carriers down, extends delivery windows, and can increase costs. Booking during quieter travel periods saves both time and money.

Carrier Availability

Texas to Washington is a popular route, so carriers are generally available. However, during peak summer months, demand surges. Book at least two to three weeks ahead to lock in better rates and faster pickup.

Open vs Enclosed

Most vehicles ship just fine on an open trailer, which is the more affordable option. If you’re moving a luxury, classic, or exotic car, an enclosed trailer offers extra protection — but expect to pay a premium.

Population Density

Delivery into dense cities like Seattle can cost more due to tight streets and limited carrier access. Consider coordinating pickup or drop-off at a nearby suburb like Bellevue or Renton to save money and reduce hassle.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping during the off-season can lower your costs significantly. Even shifting your schedule by a few weeks — especially around the busy snowbird season — can lead to notable savings on your Texas to Washington shipment.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Opting for a flexible five-day pickup and delivery window gives carriers more scheduling options. That added flexibility often translates to lower rates, making it one of the easiest ways to save on car shipping.

Hub City Advantages

Choosing a pickup or delivery location near major highways in Texas or Washington increases your carrier options. More competition among carriers means better rates — especially helpful if your destination is in a rural or less-traveled area.

Open Trailers

Open trailers are the most affordable shipping option and work well for most standard vehicles. If you’re shipping a luxury or classic car, an enclosed trailer offers extra protection — though it does come at a higher cost.

HOW IT WORKS

How does Car Shipping from Texas to Washington Work?

Picturesque view of Washington

Texas to Washington car shipping is a straightforward process when you work with the right auto transport company. Sherpa Auto Transport makes it easy by connecting you with vetted carriers who specialize in this long-distance interstate route. The journey covers an average distance of 2,087 miles, taking your vehicle from the Lone Star State all the way to the Pacific Northwest. Once you request a quote and book your shipment, a licensed carrier is assigned to pick up your vehicle at a convenient location in Texas and deliver it directly to your destination in Washington.

Before your car is loaded onto the carrier, a detailed inspection report is completed. This documents your vehicle’s existing condition so everything is on record before transport begins. Most Texas to Washington auto transport shipments use open carriers, which are cost-effective and widely available. Enclosed transport is also an option if you’re shipping a luxury, classic, or high-value vehicle and want extra protection along the route.

There are a few things to keep in mind for this specific route. Texas is a large state, so pickup locations can vary widely — from Houston and Dallas to San Antonio and El Paso — which may affect scheduling. Washington’s weather, especially in fall and winter, can occasionally cause minor delays near mountain passes. That said, this is a well-traveled corridor for auto transport carriers, meaning availability is generally strong and pricing is competitive. Expect to pay between $1,100 and $1,725 depending on your vehicle type, transport method, and time of year.

From booking to delivery, Texas to Washington car shipping typically takes 3 to 7 days in transit. After booking, carrier assignment usually happens within 1 to 3 business days. The entire process — from first quote to vehicle delivery — is designed to be simple and stress-free. Sherpa Auto Transport’s Price Lock Promise also means the quote you receive is the price you pay, with no surprise fees on delivery.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

Texas to Washington Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

Moving from Texas to Washington means navigating some key differences in vehicle rules. When you arrive, Washington state requires you to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency. Unlike Texas, Washington does not have a standard vehicle inspection program, but it does require emissions testing for vehicles in certain counties, including King, Pierce, and Snohomish. Texas has no statewide emissions testing requirement, so this may be a new step for many drivers making the move.

There are also differences in vehicle laws worth knowing before your Texas to Washington car shipping trip is complete. Washington has stricter window tinting rules — front side windows must allow at least 24% of light in, compared to Texas, which allows 25%. Washington also enforces specific rules on vehicle lift height, limiting bumper height based on vehicle weight class. If your truck or SUV has been modified, make sure it meets Washington’s standards before you drive it off the auto transport carrier.

Weather preparation is one of the most important tips for anyone completing a car shipping move from Texas to Washington. Washington’s climate — especially east of the Cascades — brings snow and ice in winter. Consider switching to all-season or dedicated winter tires after your vehicle arrives. Texas drivers are often unfamiliar with winter driving conditions, so adding an emergency kit with an ice scraper, jumper cables, and sand or kitty litter for traction is strongly recommended.

Insurance is another area to review after your auto transport is complete. Washington state requires higher minimum liability coverage than Texas. Texas minimums are 30/60/25, while Washington requires 25/50/10 — but experts recommend carrying more than the minimum in both states. Notify your insurance provider before your move so your policy reflects your new location. Rates in Washington may differ based on your county, driving history, and the local weather risks that come with Pacific Northwest roads.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Texas to Washington Vehicle Transport FAQs

Getting your vehicle ready for transport from Texas to Washington is simple! Follow these key steps to ensure a smooth and safe shipment:

  • Clean your car: Wash your vehicle before pickup so the carrier can clearly document any pre-existing scratches, dents, or damage during the inspection.
  • Document the condition: Take photos of your vehicle from all angles before handing it over. This protects you in the unlikely event of a dispute.
  • Remove personal items: Auto transport carriers are not licensed to ship personal belongings. Empty your car of valuables, loose items, and anything fragile.
  • Remove toll tags and parking passes: Toll transponders like TxTag can accidentally scan and charge you during transit. Remove them before shipping.
  • Check your fuel level: Keep your gas tank no more than a quarter full. A full tank adds unnecessary weight to the carrier.
  • Check for leaks and mechanical issues: Make sure your vehicle is in good working order. Notify your carrier of any known issues ahead of time.
  • Disable alarms: A car alarm that triggers during transport can cause serious delays. Disable it or provide instructions to deactivate it.
  • Remove exterior accessories: Detach spoilers, bike racks, or any custom add-ons that could be damaged or cause damage during the long haul from Texas to Washington.
  • Have a key ready: Provide the carrier with a working key so they can safely load and unload your vehicle.

Before your car ever leaves Texas, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is active and in good standing. We also require all carriers to add Sherpa Auto Transport as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy — giving you an extra layer of protection throughout the entire trip to Washington.

Have questions about coverage? Contact our team — we’re happy to walk you through the details.

The sooner you book, the better. We recommend scheduling your pickup from Texas at least two weeks in advance. However, booking even earlier — especially during peak moving seasons like summer — gives carriers more time to bundle your shipment with others heading from Texas to Washington, which can mean faster pickup and lower costs.

Keep in mind that the Texas-to-Washington route is a long haul, covering roughly 2,000+ miles. More lead time helps ensure a carrier is available and ready to go when you are. Last-minute bookings are sometimes possible, but they may come with higher rates and fewer scheduling options.

To get the best experience, book as early as you can, have your vehicle ready to go on your chosen pickup date, and stay flexible with a two- to three-day pickup window to help carriers coordinate their routes efficiently.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

Open transport is the most popular and affordable option for shipping your car from Texas to Washington. Your vehicle rides on an open-air trailer — the same type used to deliver new cars to dealerships. It’s safe, reliable, and the right choice for most standard vehicles.

Enclosed transport costs roughly 50% more than open transport, but it provides extra protection. Your car is fully covered inside a trailer, shielding it from road debris, dust, and weather along the long Texas-to-Washington route. It’s the best choice for:

  • Classic or antique cars
  • Luxury or exotic vehicles
  • Cars with custom paint jobs or body modifications
  • Any high-value vehicle where appearance matters

For most everyday vehicles, open transport is the smarter, more cost-effective choice. If your car holds significant monetary or sentimental value, the added cost of enclosed shipping is well worth the peace of mind. Want to learn more? Check out our full open vs. enclosed auto transport guide.

Yes! Sherpa Auto Transport offers door-to-door auto transport service for all shipments from Texas to Washington. This is the most convenient way to ship your vehicle — no need to drop it off at a terminal or travel out of your way.

Here’s how it works: when you book your shipment, simply provide your preferred pickup address in Texas and your delivery address in Washington. Your assigned carrier will come directly to you and deliver your vehicle as close to your door as safely possible.

Keep in mind that large car carriers cannot always navigate narrow streets, low-hanging trees, or tight residential areas. If your address presents a challenge, your driver will coordinate with you to find a nearby alternative — such as a local parking lot or gas station. This is common and easy to arrange.

Door-to-door service is available for both open and enclosed transport options on the Texas to Washington route. It’s the most popular choice for a reason — it saves you time and keeps the process simple from start to finish.

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket.

While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.
