What our Tumwater customers say about Sherpa:
“We researched the various companies and found that Sherpa Auto was considered one of the top 5 auto brokers/shippers in the country. As a broker, they require the shippers to carry $1M in insurance, which means they are invested in the process. Their shipping cost was mid-range of the other top auto shippers/brokers and they very clearly explained the shipping/bidding process. The shipper that accepted the contract was Comic Transportation based in Federal Way, Washington.”
“Our overall experience with Sherpa was largely positive. They were very responsive to our questions and concerns about our auto transport from Southern California to the PNW. Keep in mind, they are “the middle man” in the transport process. They find the “carrier” company for you. In our case, it was Diesel Auto Express Nationwide Auto Transport. We had our pick up time delayed four times, which was super frustrating. Eventually, the car made it up to their yards in Vancouver, Washington to ultimately be transported (final leg of the trip)to our city.”
“I can’t express enough how incredibly great and smooth my experience was with Sherpa. From the moment I first called them and spoke to a representative to the handling over my keys. They communicated with me almost daily to make sure I understood the process and had contact with my deliveryman. His name was Phillip from Spokane Wa and he was super courteous and right on time down to the last minute. He had constant contact with me as well.”

Factors that affect Tumwater Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey from or to Tumwater, WA significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Vehicle Type: The size and weight of your car affect shipping rates. Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks typically cost more to transport than compact cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Transport Method: Open carriers are the most common and affordable option for car shipping to or from Tumwater. Enclosed transport, while pricier, offers extra protection from weather and road debris, which can be beneficial during Washington’s rainy seasons.
- Route Popularity: Tumwater’s proximity to I-5 can affect pricing. More frequent routes along major highways often have lower rates due to higher demand and easier access for carriers.
- Seasonality: Car shipping prices may fluctuate based on the time of year. Summer months and January tend to see higher demand and prices for auto transport services in Tumwater and across the country.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the cost of transport to or from Tumwater.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Terminal-to-terminal shipping is often less expensive than door-to-door service. However, Tumwater’s urban setting may make door-to-door service more accessible and competitively priced.
- Fuel Prices: Fluctuations in fuel costs can impact car shipping rates. As a port city, Tumwater may see less dramatic effects from fuel price changes compared to more inland locations.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Tumwater?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Tumwater
When planning car shipping to or from Tumwater, WA, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather patterns that can impact your auto transport experience. Tumwater experiences a temperate climate with distinct seasons, each presenting unique challenges for car shipping services.
In winter, Tumwater sees significant rainfall and occasional snow. If you’re scheduling car transport during this season:
- Avoid using snow tires or chains, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with these
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions
- Remove any items from your vehicle that could freeze and potentially damage your car
Summer in Tumwater is generally mild, but temperatures can occasionally spike. When shipping a car during warmer months:
- Place a sunshade under your windshield to protect your car’s interior
- Remove any heat-sensitive items that could melt or warp
Beyond weather considerations, Tumwater car shipping can be affected by seasonal events. As home to South Puget Sound Community College, Tumwater sees increased auto transport demand at the beginning and end of academic terms. To avoid peak pricing and potential delays, consider scheduling your car shipping a few weeks before or after these busy periods.
Additionally, Tumwater’s proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord means military relocations can impact car transport availability. If you’re flexible with your shipping dates, ask your car shipping company about less busy periods to potentially save on costs.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, you can ensure a smoother, more cost-effective car shipping experience to or from Tumwater, WA. Always consult with your chosen auto transport provider for the most up-to-date advice on shipping a car to this beautiful Pacific Northwest city.

Reviews from our Washington Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Washington customers:
“My father was getting rid of his truck and offered it to me. We needed to ship it from Texas up Washington where I live, and Sherpa was the cheapest way to do it. I called them directly and the rep, Tiffany, explained that sometimes when people bid on it, they’re just bidding for one way so the number that you see is one way. She explained that with Sherpa there are no additional fees. She also explained that most of them are brokers. Sherpa seemed the most transparent about their fees or how much the total would be. During the pick-up of the vehicle, my dad received a call and the driver wanted to come at 11:30 at night. He told the driver no so he came the next morning, which worked better for my dad’s schedule. The guy was nice. For the delivery, I received a call then half an hour later, the guy showed up at my door. I live on a pretty wide residential street, but he parked on the major street, brought the car and it was right there.”
“I liked everything about Sherpa Auto Transport. It’s all about customer care. Also, their price was less. And whenever I call customer care, the response was excellent. I could reach them and they could answer all the questions, whatever I asked, very patiently. The first person I spoke to was Brittany, and she was very patient. Also, she was not sure whether I would go ahead with her service or not, but still she gave the information. Sometimes, people speak nicely only when they are sure that they will get the customer. But she was not even sure because I did not commit, and she did her job sincerely. The pick-up date and time window were given. The driver arrived exactly in the time window. He took pictures and we gave the car. At the drop-off location also, it was smooth. He didn’t speak anything here and there. Just did his task and left. At the drop-off also. Whatever was told in the instructions, it was just like that. So, I was happy.”
“Customer service was fast and they answered my questions in a timely manner. They also offered a $100 rebate for being in the military. They even offer to pay for a car wash up to $20 after delivery. Sherpa Auto Transport worked very well as the middleman between me and the actual transport company Lion King Express. Connecting with the driver for pick up and delivery of my car was smooth. My home was not located in a place for a semi truck to easily pick up my car, so I had to meet the driver elsewhere, but my Uber ride home was scheduled and paid for by the driver! There was miscommunication about the total price involving the weight of belongings in the car, but the problem was quickly solved within a matter of ten minutes after reaching out to Sherpa Auto Transport. I highly recommend using this car shipping company and would use them again!”
“Sherpa was fantastic. They did everything I asked them to do. They were more than professional and got me somebody that I needed right away and eliminated all that extra work for me. They got me a driver on time. They quoted me this price, and it wasn’t any different to the final cost. I called them, they set it up, they called me and kept me posted on what was gonna happen, and when it was gonna happen. They gave me the name and the number of the transport company that they contracted to, and I worked through them at the end, and it worked out perfectly. I’d use them again. I transport a lot of cars all the time and this is the first time I used them.”
“I rarely leave reviews for things, but I wanted to for Sherpa because it was my first time shipping a vehicle and I chose Sherpa as my broker, and everything went great! They chose West Coast Auto Transport as my carrier (which they assigned very quickly) for shipping my car from WA State to Maryland, and their drivers were so kind and professional. They picked up my car on the first day of the pickup window, and despite a delay in delivery, the carrier gave me an update and the driver for delivery was very communicative about arrival and it truly was door-to-door service! He parked his truck down the road and personally drove my vehicle right to my apartment building door – so awesome! I will absolutely use Sherpa again for any future car shipping needs.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Tumwater, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
