What our Vancouver customers say about Sherpa:
“Our overall experience with Sherpa was largely positive. They were very responsive to our questions and concerns about our auto transport from Southern California to the PNW. Keep in mind, they are ‘the middle man’ in the transport process. They find the ‘carrier’ company for you. In our case, it was Diesel Auto Express Nationwide Auto Transport. We had our pick up time delayed four times, which was super frustrating. We almost went with another carrier but Sherpa could not find another one, so we roughed it out waiting. Eventually, the car made it up to their yards in Vancouver, Washington to ultimately be transported (final leg of the trip) to our city.”
“We moved two vehicles with Sherpa. Working with the reps was all pretty positive. I started with an online thing and they contacted me. We worked things out. The first vehicle was really good ’cause they were able to drop it off right in front of our place in Pennsylvania, which is a little bit out in the country. The only issue was coordinating everything from Pennsylvania. I was in New Jersey on a work assignment at the time and my son was at his place in Vancouver, Washington.”
“I shipped a Toyota Prius 3,000 miles. I looked up 3 companies and Sherpa have better reviews online. They gave me a three-day window for the delivery of the car and they delivered within that window. However, it would be nice to get a confirmation like when it gets closer that it’s still on schedule. It might catch people’s attention a little bit better because I got caught off guard. I forgot I had a car coming in. Nevertheless, the delivery went well. A guy knocked on the door and the car was already unloaded. The papers were already ready for me to inspect the vehicle and sign. It was zero effort on my end, just for pick-up.”

Factors that affect Vancouver Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Vancouver, WA’s location near Portland, OR and major highways like I-5 and I-205 can affect car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but Vancouver’s good connectivity may help keep costs down for many routes.
- Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Vancouver. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection but cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times.
- Seasonal Factors: Vancouver’s mild climate means fewer weather-related shipping challenges. However, summer months and January typically see higher demand and prices for auto transport services.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or inoperable vehicles cost more to ship. If your car can roll, brake, and steer, you’ll enjoy lower shipping costs to or from Vancouver.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Vancouver’s urban setting typically means lower costs compared to rural areas. Consider meeting the carrier in Vancouver or nearby Portland for potential savings if you’re shipping from a remote location.
- Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window, such as Sherpa’s five-day option, can reduce your car shipping costs to or from Vancouver. Rush or guaranteed pickup dates will increase the price.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Vancouver, WA. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book in advance: Schedule your Vancouver car shipping at least two weeks ahead. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-5 or I-205. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues for the auto transport company.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can help you secure better options and potentially lower costs for your car transport to or from Vancouver, WA.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer. Shipping your car during off-peak times can often result in more competitive rates from car shipping services.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Vancouver?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Vancouver
When planning car shipping to or from Vancouver, WA, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. Vancouver experiences mild winters and warm summers, but certain factors can affect your auto transport experience.
During the winter months (November to February), Vancouver can see occasional snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers cannot transport vehicles with them installed.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent issues with icy surfaces.
- Remove any items from your vehicle that could freeze and potentially damage your car’s interior.
In summer (June to September), temperatures can rise significantly. For car transport during warmer months:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect your car’s interior from heat damage.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from your vehicle before shipping.
Beyond weather considerations, timing is crucial for efficient Vancouver car shipping. Keep in mind:
- The start and end of college semesters can increase demand for car shipping services, particularly around Washington State University Vancouver.
- Summer months see higher tourism, potentially affecting auto transport availability.
- Plan your car transport a few weeks before or after peak times for potentially better rates and availability.
By considering these factors, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from Vancouver, WA. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on seasonal considerations and optimal shipping times.
Car Shipping for College Students in Vancouver, Washington

Most off-campus apartments offer parking, but it’s wise to confirm before signing a lease. For winter breaks, both institutions provide extended parking options, allowing students to leave their cars safely on campus. Reviews from our Washington Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Washington customers:
“A great experience with Sherpa from the very first inquiry, all communication, car transport pickup and drop off: WA to VA. Driver excellent as well. My Lexus Sedan was in great condition throughout entire cross country transport. Very pleased with Sherpa and would highly recommend.”
“Arrived to pick up car on the date and time requested. The car was delivered at the time agreed upon. The car was in the same condition as when it left. The gentleman that picked up and delivered the car was very professional and personable. Thank you for your assistance.”
“Sherpa transported my car from Vt. to Vancouver, Washington, everything went perfectly. They picked up and delivered the car at the agreed times. It is an excellent option considering the price. All the staff I came in contact with are very professional. I recommend this company.”
“I was happy with the fact that everything happened the way Sherpa said and that they explained everything in advance. So, it went very smoothly.”
“We had never shipped a vehicle prior to this occasion and weren`t really sure how to do it. We researched the various companies and found that Sherpa Auto was considered one of the top 5 auto brokers/shippers in the country. As a broker, they require the shippers to carry $1M in insurance, which means they are invested in the process. Their shipping cost was mid-range of the other top auto shippers/brokers and they very clearly explained the shipping/bidding process. The shipper that accepted the contract was Comic Transportation based in Federal Way, Washington. The driver was courteous and professional, and he thoroughly explained the process of shipping the vehicle. Throughout the process, the driver maintained contact with us and gave us plenty of advance notice as to when the car would be picked up and dropped off. While he was a couple of hours late picking up the vehicle from the pickup point, it was understandable due to unforeseen circumstances. The vehicle was delivered to the drop-off destination a day early–no scratches or dents and just needed a good washing, for which they did provide a credit to have the car washed. We would definitely use Sherpa Auto again for any future shipping needs because they offer peace of mind that the process will go smoothly without any glitches.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Vancouver, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
