What our Thousand Oaks customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa subcontracted the job with another company so I was dealing directly with that company. He was great and very communicative. He told me when he arrived to pick up the car. They also had to hold on to the car for a couple of days because I was accommodating them. They asked to pick it up early and I agreed but I didn’t have the money until the following Friday so they had to hold on to it for a couple of days. And I saw it was just in a locked lot so I was happy. Then they delivered when they said they would. So I was very happy with them and I would totally use them again.”
“We needed specific pick up and drop off dates due to the travel we were doing and moving our son out of state. Sherpa worked with the carriers to make that happen for us. The car was in perfect condition, they delivered it on time, instructions were very easy and the cost was right on par with what it would have cost to drive across country, gas, lodging, wear and tear. Very easy to work with and I highly recommend them.”
“Good experience professional. Not overly pushy. They were thorough, kept me notified thru texts and calls. Easy to get ahold of them and with a competitive price. This was my first time shipping a car across the country, so I was a little nervous. But I felt confident in letting them handle this.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Thousand Oaks Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Thousand Oaks and your destination plays a significant role in car shipping costs. Longer distances typically mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer journeys.
- Transport Type: Open auto transport is the most common and cost-effective option for shipping cars to or from Thousand Oaks. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection for high-value or classic vehicles against Thousand Oaks’ occasional Santa Ana winds and road debris.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Route Accessibility: Thousand Oaks’ proximity to major highways like the 101 Freeway can help reduce costs. However, if your pickup or delivery location is in a less accessible area, it may increase the price.
- Seasonal Demand: Car shipping prices to and from Thousand Oaks may fluctuate based on seasonal demand. Summer months and January often see higher prices due to increased relocation activity.
- Delivery Timeframe: If you need expedited shipping to or from Thousand Oaks, it will likely cost more than standard delivery times. Flexible pickup and delivery dates can help reduce costs.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, which increases the cost.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Thousand Oaks. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your car shipment at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for multiple pickups in Thousand Oaks, CA.
- Choose open transport: Open shipping is the most cost-effective option for car transport. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed carriers.
- Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like US-101 or CA-23. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your car shipping needs. Consider weekday transport, as weekend services may be more expensive.
- Consider seasonal factors: Car shipping to or from Thousand Oaks may be affected by seasonal demands. Summer months often see higher prices due to increased relocation activity, so plan accordingly.

Thousand Oaks, California Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Thousand Oaks?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Thousand Oaks?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Thousand Oaks?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Thousand Oaks?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Thousand Oaks
When planning car shipping to or from Thousand Oaks, CA, it’s crucial to consider the area’s unique climate and seasonal factors. Thousand Oaks enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This weather pattern influences auto transport in several ways:
- Summer Considerations: During the warm months (June-September), temperatures can reach the high 80s°F. When shipping a car in summer:
- Use a sunshade to protect your vehicle’s interior from heat damage
- Remove heat-sensitive items from the car before transport
- Consider enclosed auto transport for extra protection from sun and heat

- Ensure your vehicle is winterized if shipping to colder destinations
- Remove any items that could freeze or expand in cold temperatures
- Check that pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to avoid issues in wet conditions
- Peak Seasons: Thousand Oaks car shipping can be busier during certain periods:
- Summer months see increased demand due to family relocations
- Late August and early September are busy with college students returning to nearby universities
- Consider booking your car transport a few weeks before or after these peak times for potentially better rates and availability
By keeping these factors in mind, you can ensure a smooth car shipping experience to or from Thousand Oaks, CA. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for specific advice tailored to your vehicle and transport needs.

Reviews from our California Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied California customers:
“Sherpa took very good care of the car. I had great service. It was very quick and thorough. Also, the price was affordable. They were very transparent, and they stuck to their cost. They committed to picking the car up at a particular time. They were on time, they loaded the car, there was no damage to the car, and they committed to delivering it to Edmond, Oklahoma the following day. They told me they wanted a cashier`s check when I talked to them in California. But the night they delivered it, they said they wanted cash. It was a husband and wife team. The wife said that they take cashier`s checks and then we talked. So there was just a miscommunication, but the experience was really good. I would use Sherpa again and I`ve already referred them to another friend. They were very honest and straightforward. They were great people. I was very pleased with the experience.”
“My daughter moved to North Carolina and I looked at dozens of different transport companies before choosing Sherpa Auto Transport. We went through various Yelp and other rating web services, and Consumer Reports rated Sherpa as the best choice. The customer service rep at Sherpa was great, very informative, and had a great demeanor. The initial quote was higher than everybody else, but I wasn’t willing to take a chance with a company that wasn’t rated well. The vehicle was shipped from my house in California to where my daughter is in North Carolina and they did fine. They showed up when they said they were going to. However, because of the flooding in North Carolina, the driver had to talk her through how he was gonna get there. My daughter didn’t have any transportation to get to where the car was potentially going to be delivered, but the driver finally got it within a mile off where she was living. The cost was good and the drivers on both ends did a good job. My only gripe at the whole thing is when they loaded the vehicle on to the long distance transport, it wasn’t taking off. Something happened to the back of the car after it left my house and before it got to North Carolina because there was a dime-sized ding in the back bumper. My daughter said she was gonna either call Sherpa or the transport company to find out what she could get done about it. Overall, it was a good experience. They handled the transport well especially considering the fact that it was an unknown situation in North Carolina when we were trying to ship the car. Sherpa did a good job.”
“All others get text messages and emails from truckers all over the place. Sherpa organizes everything, guarantees price and only on trucker calls and reliably delivers your vehicle. We shipped car across country from Seattle to Philadelphia. Very reasonable price from Sherpa and door side pickup and delivery of car was seamless.”
“Everything went well with Sherpa. I moved across the country and the transport for my 1982 Toyota Tercel was pretty quick. It took about a week and was a little faster than I was expecting. I looked at around 3 transport companies and Sherpa had better customer service reviews. And just from talking to them, I got a better vibe. I almost went with another company, but I`ve had bad experiences with auto transport in the past and it was pretty clear that this other company was shady, so I went with Sherpa. My experience with other companies is that they`ll give you a really low price and then they won`t be able to deliver on that so they`ll just kinda walk you up until they get to something higher than what you originally agreed to. But with Sherpa, they were pretty upfront about exactly what it was gonna cost. It was exactly what they said and it seemed reasonable. I`d like to pay less, but it goes like 1,200 to ship the car. It`s market-driven, so it costs what it cost to get someone to ship the car, and I was willing to pay it.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Thousand Oaks, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of California. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
