What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

Smoothest transaction I have ever had. Being my first transport, I didn’t know what to expect. Sherpa brokers out their deliveries and only uses the most reputable drivers with highest ins policies. I compared prices with two other companies and they were by far the most reasonable. From beginning to end, the process was flawless. Thank you to Doug for getting my son’s vehicle from Arizona to Michigan. I think it only took 3 days. Will definitely use them again. So pleased with their professionalism and customer service.

I was very happy with Sherpa and the contracted driver who delivered our car from Michigan to Arizona. Everyone was professional with good communication, and the car arrived more quickly than they thought it would. The experience couldn’t have been better. If I ever had to transport a car again, I would definitely use Sherpa. The driver was very friendly and helpful, and jumped the car when the battery was low in the cold Michigan weather so he could get it onto the truck. He was really helpful and friendly.

Sherpa has a good rate. They told me they could get the vehicle down in Florida in the timeframe we needed. The other two movers were a week out. The truck was picked up in Mason, Michigan at one of our superintendent’s homes and taken down to Pompano Beach, Florida to our other shop down there. They called me, let me know ahead of time, and also sent me emails telling me when they were gonna be there and when the truck was gonna be down to the shop down in Florida. Everything went smoothly. I would recommend them.

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Flint, MI Shipping Prices

Distance

Distance plays the biggest role in your car shipping cost from Flint, MI. Shipping across the country costs much more than moving within Michigan or to nearby states like Ohio or Indiana. Longer trips mean more fuel, driver time, and truck wear.

Route

Flint sits near major highways like I-75 and I-69, which helps keep costs down. Routes along these busy corridors are cheaper because carriers run them regularly. Remote areas or routes requiring detours from main highways will cost more.

Season

Summer months (June-August) are peak season for car shipping, making rates higher. Winter shipping from Flint can be tricky due to snow and ice, but rates may be lower. Spring and fall often offer the best balance of price and weather.

Vehicle Type

Standard cars are cheapest to ship from Flint. SUVs, trucks, and large vehicles cost more because they’re heavier and take up more trailer space. Some carriers can’t handle oversized vehicles at all, limiting your options and raising prices.

Traffic Patterns

Avoid shipping during busy travel times like Thanksgiving week or major holidays. Traffic jams around Detroit and other cities slow down carriers and increase costs. Plan your shipment for quieter periods when possible.

Carrier Availability

More carriers serve Flint during busy summer months, but competition for spots is fierce. Off-season shipping may have fewer carriers available, but you’ll get better rates and faster booking once you find one.

Open vs Enclosed

Open trailers cost less and work fine for most cars leaving Flint. Enclosed trailers protect luxury or classic cars from weather and road debris but cost 40-60% more. Most people choose open transport to save money.

Population Density

Flint’s moderate size helps keep shipping costs reasonable compared to dense cities like Detroit. Rural pickup or delivery locations outside Flint may cost extra. Meeting your carrier at a main road or shopping center can save money.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Save money by shipping your car during off-peak times. Avoid busy seasons like winter snowbird migrations when demand spikes. Even shifting your shipment by a few weeks can reduce costs significantly.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Choose flexible pickup and delivery windows to lower your shipping costs. Offering carriers a five-day window for both pickup and delivery in Flint gives them more scheduling options and better rates.

Hub City Advantages

Pick pickup locations near major highways around Flint for better rates. Highway-accessible spots give carriers more route options and competitive pricing. Consider nearby highway cities if shipping to rural areas.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed ones for standard vehicles. Choose open transport for regular cars to save money. Reserve enclosed trailers only for luxury or classic cars needing extra protection.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

Flint, MI Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

When planning car shipping to or from Flint, MI, understanding Michigan’s vehicle requirements is essential. Michigan requires new residents to register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency [MI SOS]. The state uses a unique no-fault insurance system, meaning drivers must carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage, which can be more expensive than other states [MI DOI]. Auto transport customers should budget for these higher insurance costs when relocating to Flint, MI.

Michigan doesn’t require emissions testing for most vehicles, but has specific regulations worth noting [MI DEQ]. Window tinting is limited to 4 inches from the top of the windshield, and side windows must allow at least 35% light transmission [MI Vehicle Code]. Vehicle lift restrictions apply – trucks cannot exceed 13 feet 6 inches in height [MI DOT]. For those shipping cars to Flint’s harsh winters, consider winter modifications before or after auto transport. All-season or winter tires are highly recommended, as Michigan experiences heavy snowfall and ice [NWS]. Block heaters and battery warmers can prevent cold-weather starting issues common in Flint’s sub-zero temperatures.

College Car Shipping

College & University Car Shipping in Flint, MI

Students planning to attend colleges in the Flint area should research parking policies before using car shipping services to transport their vehicle. The University of Michigan-Flint requires parking permits for all campus parking, with residential students eligible for overnight permits [UM-Flint Parking Services]. Kettering University offers designated student parking areas but recommends registering vehicles with campus security [Kettering University]. Most off-campus apartments don’t include parking, so students should confirm availability when apartment hunting. During Michigan’s harsh winters, consider snow tires and verify your roadside assistance coverage extends to your new location [Michigan DMV]. Many students use auto transport companies to ship cars home during winter break, as campus parking may have restrictions during extended closures. Before shipping a car to Flint, MI, contact your chosen institution’s parking office to understand specific requirements and avoid costly violations.

Here’s why early booking matters:

  • More scheduling options: You’ll have first pick of available pickup windows
  • Less stress: Avoid last-minute rush fees and limited availability

Peak season tip: During busy times like summer months and holidays, book 3-4 weeks ahead. Flint’s location in Michigan makes it a popular route for snowbirds heading south in winter.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

Open transport is the most common and budget-friendly option. Your car rides on an open trailer, exposed to weather and road debris. It’s safe for most vehicles and costs significantly less.

Enclosed transport protects your car inside a covered trailer. It costs 40-60% more than open transport but shields your vehicle from weather, dust, and road debris. This option is ideal for luxury cars, classic vehicles, or cars with custom paint jobs.

For most Flint residents shipping standard vehicles, open transport works perfectly fine. Choose enclosed transport if you’re shipping a high-value car or want maximum protection. See our complete open vs enclosed guide for detailed comparisons and pricing.
