What our East Lansing customers say about Sherpa:
“The Sherpa people were great. They were going to have a hurricane when I called them and the lady said she didn’t care if they would have an office to work out of but she was gonna call me back on Monday. I was really early in doing it for my own peace of mind to make sure I had it. They called and told me that there was no problem and that it would work. The dispatcher also called me a couple of times to make sure that everything was good. Then during the trip, the driver was very responsible.”
“Writing a review because I relied heavily on these while deciding which broker company to go with to find someone to transport my car from Utah to Michigan. Some background information…I am a gal in my early 20’s that has NO IDEA how these things work. So if you are in the same position as me, this review is for you haha. I first decided to go through with another company who ended up not being authorized which made me extremely nervous while looking for a new company.”

Factors that affect East Lansing Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey from or to East Lansing, MI significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and affordable option for auto transport to or from East Lansing. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times.
- Seasonal Factors: East Lansing’s harsh winters can affect car shipping prices. Icy roads and snowstorms may lead to higher costs and potential delays during the colder months.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to or from East Lansing due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Route Accessibility: East Lansing’s proximity to major highways like I-69 and I-96 can help keep costs down, as these routes are easily accessible for auto transport carriers.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas in East Lansing are generally cheaper for car shipping than rural locations. Consider meeting the carrier in a more accessible area to potentially reduce costs.
- Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can often result in lower car shipping costs to or from East Lansing. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically come with higher prices.
- Vehicle Condition: Inoperable vehicles cost more to ship as they require special equipment for loading and unloading. Ensure your car is in running condition to avoid additional fees.
Understanding these factors can help you estimate the cost of shipping your car to or from East Lansing, MI more accurately. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your East Lansing car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-69 or I-96. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
- Be flexible: Offer date ranges for pickup and delivery rather than specific days. This flexibility allows carriers to optimize their schedules, potentially resulting in lower costs for your East Lansing auto transport.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer or holidays. Shipping your car during off-peak times may result in more competitive rates for car shipping services to or from East Lansing, MI.

East Lansing Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When planning your car shipping to East Lansing, MI, it’s crucial to understand local regulations and prepare for your move. Michigan doesn’t use a traditional toll system, so there’s no need to remove a toll reader. However, the state does require all vehicles to pass a basic safety inspection before registration. When shipping a car to East Lansing, ensure it meets these standards to avoid delays.
Michigan’s vehicle registration process is straightforward. You’ll need to visit a Secretary of State office within 30 days of moving, bringing proof of ownership, identity, and Michigan no-fault insurance. East Lansing residents should be aware of the city’s overnight parking regulations, which restrict street parking between 2-6 AM without a permit.
When settling in East Lansing, set up utilities promptly. The Lansing Board of Water & Light provides both electricity and water services. For internet, popular providers include AT&T, Xfinity, and Spectrum. Don’t forget to register to vote at your new address and explore the East Lansing Public Library’s services.
If you’re moving away and using car transport services, remember to cancel local memberships, forward your mail, and notify important contacts of your address change. Your auto transport company can guide you on preparing your vehicle for shipping, considering East Lansing’s variable weather conditions.
East Lansing’s climate features cold winters and warm summers, which can affect car shipping. When arranging auto transport, consider seasonal factors. Winter car shipments may face delays due to snow and ice on major routes like I-69 and I-96. Summer is often ideal for shipping a car to or from East Lansing, with more predictable travel conditions.
By understanding these local nuances and preparing accordingly, your move and car transport experience to or from East Lansing can be smooth and stress-free. Remember, a reputable car shipping company can provide invaluable assistance throughout the process.
East Lansing, Michigan Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from East Lansing?

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from East Lansing?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from East Lansing?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to East Lansing?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in East Lansing
When planning car shipping to or from East Lansing, MI, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. East Lansing experiences distinct seasons, each with unique challenges for auto transport.
Winter Considerations: East Lansing winters can be harsh, with heavy snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Remove snow tires or chains before transport, as carriers can’t accommodate them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping.
- Remove or properly insulate items that could freeze and expand.
Summer Precautions: While milder than winter, East Lansing summers can still be warm. For summer car transport:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect your vehicle’s interior.
- Remove heat-sensitive items that could melt or warp.
Peak Seasons: As home to Michigan State University, East Lansing sees increased demand for car shipping services during specific periods:
- Late August/early September: Students arriving for fall semester

Car Shipping for College Students in East Lansing, Michigan
When considering car shipping to East Lansing, Michigan, it’s crucial to understand the parking situation at Michigan State University (MSU). Students need to register their vehicles and purchase a parking permit to park on campus. Most off-campus apartments offer parking, but it’s wise to confirm this before signing a lease. For winter breaks, MSU provides long-term parking options, allowing students to store their cars safely. Given East Lansing’s snowy winters, snow tires are highly recommended. Remember, a reliable car shipping company can make your transition to college life smoother, allowing you to focus on your studies rather than transportation logistics.
Reviews from our Michigan Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Michigan customers:
“Only one review?? Wow, that sucks because I would’ve sworn this company was one of the most credible. I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article. After retrieving a quote for nearly every company in the article, I instantly put Sherpa at the top of my list because of their promised flat-rate policy. If you have experience shipping a car, you know how great this is. Shortly after, I received a phone call from a very lovely worker who offered me a much appreciated rebate if I chose to go with them instead of other companies I was considering at the time. He also explained the entire process very thoroughly which was very helpful for my young, confused mind. I instantly felt like I would be in good hands leaving my precious baby in the hands of a stranger for 5 days to a week, and this feeling held true throughout the entire process. The company they partnered with (Spark Prime Logistics, in my case) handled my car with the upmost care and she actually arrived in better condition than when I left her (broken trunk hatch issue…maybe the desert heat helped? idk, but I’m not complaining lol). My carrier wouldn’t even pull into a residential street to avoid scratching anyone’s vehicle. Instant approval. I trust that Sherpa would only partner the best of the best to get the job done. All in all, I am absolutely pleased with Sherpa and would confidently say that I’d instantly go to them if I ever again decide to make another crazy man’s move across states. No more searching. Sherpa for the win!”
“I saw really great reviews for Sherpa and there was nothing that stood out to me that made me want to deter from them. I had a good feeling just from reading the reviews and the company history. They were the better option. I filled out a form online and within a few hours, I received an email stating that they could help me further make my decision on everything else. It was a good experience and the salespeople were not pushy. The customer support helped me. I was able to get the shipment place and everything during that call, so everything was handled. Sherpa offered multiple options for the transport and I chose the uncovered one. I was quoted a higher price for the service. I spoke to a representative and they noticed that the year of my car was wrong so they changed that and I got a lower price. That was really good. I really like the price lock too. I wasn’t able to pay over the phone and I was able to hold that amount for a few days until I was able to pay for that shipment. That was really helpful. I really liked that I was able to keep the new quoted amount. The car was transported from Florida to Michigan and the delivery was very fast. The car came within two or three days. And the delivery service was very friendly. They kept me updated throughout the entire time. When the car got here, they gave me a rundown. It was my first time seeing this car as I purchased it. They made sure I took pictures if there were any issues. I liked the process through and through. I would tell others to check out the Sherpa website, fill out the forms and appropriate things for the vehicle that they need. I have recommended them to my friends and I would definitely tell them to check it out.”
“There were plenty of nerves when we decided to buy an expensive convertible half way across the country online, and then had to decide how to get it! We checked air fare, driving ourselves cost, and every option, and decided to have it shipped. The dealership we bought the car from didn’t help with this end of it–after you buy it–you get to figure out the rest! We Googled “car carriers in ***********” and within 2 minutes we were bombarded with every car carrier company in the country trying to get our business! Some of them just wouldn’t leave us alone, and were actually rude and pushy, so we didn’t choose them, of course. We figured that if they were going to be that pushy, we didn’t trust them. One dude called us repeatedly and promised us the world, but we had to react fast as his carrier was filling up. We ultimately just went to star ratings and reviews and made a couple of phone calls to Sherpa to just talk to someone. They were very helpful, answered all our questions, assured us that the process was safe and legit, and we felt good about choosing them. Their price wasn’t the cheapest, but it also wasn’t the most expensive. $885 to have it shipped from ********* to West Michigan. Within a week, we heard from them that our car would be coming on Saturday, and as promised, it did. The driver was very nice, (he had a hard time with the *** getting him here, but we just went and found him a couple streets over and had him follow us back!) Car was what we had bought, and no surprise fees or red tape. Cut and dry, got our car, paid the man, and are loving our new car! Use Sherpa–you won’t be disappointed!”
“I was moving from Michigan to Florida and I reached out to Sherpa to transport my car. I talked to other companies and a lot of them were being overly otimistic and over promising. But when I spoke to Sherpa, they told me about the deal, how it works, what they could guarantee, and what they couldn’t promise me. They laid out the most realistic picture of what could be expected and based on their feedback, I changed my plan completely. I was going to ship the vehicle right around the time that I was moving out of the home, and it was right around the 4th of July holiday weekend, and they said if there was any way I could make it any sooner, they could get it where I wanted it to be. Otherwise, it was likely not going to happen. So that dialogue is really solidified it for me. The drivers were great and they arrived about an hour early for the pickup, which is always appreciated. They encouraged me to videotape as they were loading, to take as many photos, and to be there during the loading process right up to the point where the door closed. There were two drivers in the car and they were alternating. They muscled it down and yet again, they were ahead of schedule by about 40 minutes on the delivery. On a cross country drive, you can’t ask for more. They delivered it right to the front gate with 100% no issues. I wasn’t here when it was delivered but my father received the vehicle and he said they told him that he could witness the whole extraction of the vehicle, just to make sure that there were no hidden mishaps. So, it was pretty seamless. Ironically, because of the change in plans that they suggested, the price came in cheaper than I originally anticipated, because scheduling it a little bit earlier in that month saved me $350 over the original bids that I’ve been getting from the other groups. So that was great. The pricing was right where we wanted it to be. I used to buy vehicles from out of state and I was always at the mercy of whoever shipped the vehicle to pick the carrier. This time, knowing what I know about them and the carriers that they select, I want to use Sherpa again.”
“After I had sought quotes from seven or eight transporters, a well-mannered and helpful individual from Sherpa called me and explained details of how this industry (car-shipping) works, while respecting both my intelligence and my lack of experience. They also offered a reduced price from their original quote. The signup process was easy with DocuSign, and follow-up was helpful and appropriate. We had issues coordinating on the pickup end due to OUR limited availability, and the subcontractor worked well with us to mitigate these. My vehicle arrived earlier than expected in the same condition it was shipped in, and the driver delivering it also worked well with us. Highly recommend.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in East Lansing, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Michigan. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
