TESTIMONIALS

What Sherpa’s Customers are Saying

Consumer Affairs
Transporting my car from FL to MO was a learning experience. I didn’t initially hire Sherpa but after being swindled by another company I did more research and decided to give Sherpa a call after reading their reviews. The process was thoroughly explained and they delivered on time. The initial company quoted a cheaper rate but then upped the price after I had committed. Apparently that is common with the trade. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my deposit returned. It wasn’t worth the hassle. If I would have gone with Sherpa from the start I would have saved myself time and avoided the stress.

I purchased a new vehicle in Texas and needed it transported to my new home in Missouri. The dealership I custom built and purchased my car from recommended Sherpa for transportation. They were extremely easy to reach out to, answered all of my questions without hesitation, were very friendly, and kept me updated throughout the entire experience. They found a carrier to pick up my car from the dealership the first day I had requested pickup (10/3), and my car was to me from Texas to Missouri in less than 24 hours from pickup(10/4)! The driver was also very kind and easy to keep in contact with. My new car arrived without so much as a single scratch, it was in perfect condition. I will definitely be using Sherpa again in the future!

I am joining the chorus of those singing the praises of Sherpa Auto Transport. The Sherpa Team was fantastic from start to finish. Sherpa outbid most (not all, but most) of their competitors. I decided to go with Sherpa based upon their glowing reviews. I might add that Sherpa’s designated shipping agent charged more than Sherpa had anticipated (undoubtedly due to the spike in gas prices); notwithstanding, Sherpa made up the difference. In other words, I paid what Sherpa had originally quoted and not a penny more! I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. Rest assured, I’m a customer for life. Thank you Jeremy, Joshua and the whole Sherpa Dispatch Team 1. Steve P. (St. Louis)

KEY FACTORS

Factors that Affect Missouri Shipping Prices

Distance

Longer distances naturally increase shipping costs. A cross-country move from Missouri to California will cost significantly more than a neighboring state transfer.

Route

Major highways like I-70 and I-44 offer cheaper rates due to frequent carrier traffic. Remote rural routes cost more due to limited accessibility.

Season

Summer and early fall see peak demand, driving prices up. Winter months typically offer lower rates due to reduced demand and fewer relocations.

Vehicle Type

Larger vehicles like SUVs and trucks cost more to ship. They’re heavier, take up more trailer space, and consume more fuel during transport.

Traffic Patterns

Holiday periods create shipping bottlenecks that raise costs. Book during off-peak windows like mid-week or mid-month to save money and ensure faster delivery.

Carrier Availability

High-demand seasons may mean fewer available carriers. This can extend wait times and increase prices as carriers fill their schedules with premium bookings.

Open vs Enclosed

Open trailers are the budget-friendly option for most vehicles. Enclosed trailers cost more but provide weather protection and added security for luxury cars.

Population Density

Dense urban areas like St. Louis and Kansas City may have higher rates. Suburban and less congested locations often offer better pricing and easier pickup.

TIPS & TRICKS

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

Off Season Savings

Shipping your car during off-peak seasons can significantly reduce costs. Even waiting a few weeks can help you avoid busy periods when demand and prices are highest, putting more money back in your pocket.

Flexible Pickup & Delivery

Being flexible with your schedule saves money. Offering a five-day window for pickup and delivery instead of exact dates gives carriers more routing options, which translates to lower shipping costs for you.

Hub City Advantages

Choose pickup locations near major Missouri highways like I-70, I-44, or I-55. These accessible spots attract more carriers and create competition, resulting in better rates and faster service for your shipment.

Open Trailers

Open trailers cost less than enclosed options and work great for most vehicles. Unless your car needs extra protection from weather, open transport offers safe, reliable shipping at a budget-friendly price.

Our team provides updates throughout the car shipping process, ensuring a smooth and stress-free auto transport experience for Missouri residents.

INSIGHTS & REGULATIONS

MO Car Transport: State Insights and Regulations

Auto transport truck carrying vehicles

When planning car shipping to Missouri, understanding state vehicle requirements helps ensure a smooth transition. New residents must register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency and obtain a Missouri driver’s license [Missouri DOR]. The registration process requires a safety inspection at an authorized facility, which checks brakes, lights, steering, and tires [Missouri DOR].

Missouri has specific vehicle regulations to consider before auto transport. The state requires emissions testing only in the St. Louis metro area for vehicles newer than 1996 [Missouri DOR]. Window tinting laws permit 35% light transmission on front side windows, while rear windows can be darker [Missouri Revised Statutes]. These regulations differ from many states, so modifications may be needed after shipping your vehicle.

Weather considerations are important when moving to Missouri. The state experiences hot, humid summers and cold winters with ice and snow. Winter tires or all-season tires are recommended for safe driving during colder months [NOAA]. For insurance, Missouri requires minimum liability coverage of 25/50/25, meaning $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage [Missouri DOR]. Many drivers find insurance rates reasonable compared to coastal states, though rates vary by location and driving history.

College Car Shipping

College & University Car Shipping in Missouri

Missouri hosts several major universities including the University of Missouri in Columbia, Washington University and Saint Louis University in St. Louis, and Missouri State University in Springfield [University]. When shipping a vehicle to campus, students should confirm parking permit requirements and availability well in advance, as many schools have limited on-campus parking [University]. Consider timing your auto transport to arrive a few days before move-in to allow for registration and orientation activities. For students living in dorms or going home during summer and winter breaks, explore local storage facilities near campus that offer vehicle storage options [University]. Parents should also verify their student’s insurance coverage extends to Missouri and meets state minimum requirements before transport [StateDMV].

Military Car Shipping

Military Car Shipping in Missouri

Military personnel relocating to Missouri will find two major installations: Whiteman Air Force Base near Knob Noster and Fort Leonard Wood in the south-central region [DoD]. When shipping vehicles during a PCS move, service members should coordinate delivery timing with their report date, typically allowing 7-14 days for transport [USTRANSCOM]. Active duty military qualify for tax exemptions on vehicle registration when stationed in Missouri under the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act [IRS]. Before arriving, contact your installation’s Vehicle Registration Office to understand specific on-base requirements, as both bases require valid insurance, registration, and a current military ID for base access [DoD]. Many auto transport companies offer military discounts and flexible scheduling to accommodate last-minute orders—be sure to request door-to-door service when possible to simplify your transition.

I bought a C6 Corvette Convertible in Davenport Iowa, and I needed transported to Joplin Missouri, I searched many companies and they were cheaper, but I went with Sherpa because of their 5 star rating. They guarantee a price and it was delivered for the stated price and the car was delivered the next day from pickup, excellent service, and they were very careful of the car. I will use them again. 5 star service.

Our experience was great from start to finish. The representative at Sherpa was both professional and kind and our experience with the driver from pick up to drop off was outstanding. Eric was extremely punctual, professional, and made the process easy, and he was fast, delivering the car days before it was expected. The price was a little more than other companies; however, the service easily made up for that.

Auto transport times vary based on distance and route. Most shipments take 1 to 10 days from pickup to delivery.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Local or regional moves (under 500 miles): 1-3 days
  • Cross-country shipments (over 1,500 miles): 5-10 days
  • Mid-range distances: 3-6 days

Several factors can affect delivery time:

  • Weather conditions and road closures
  • Carrier route and number of stops
  • Time of year (peak season is busier)
  • Pickup and delivery locations (rural areas may take longer)

At Sherpa Auto Transport, we provide estimated delivery windows when you book. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process so you know exactly when to expect your vehicle.

Yes, your vehicle is insured during transport. All carriers in the Sherpa Auto Transport network are required to carry cargo insurance that covers your vehicle while it’s in their care.

Sherpa Auto Transport also provides additional insurance coverage for extra peace of mind. This means your vehicle has multiple layers of protection throughout the shipping process.

Before your shipment, you’ll receive documentation that outlines the insurance coverage details. If you have questions about coverage limits or specific terms, our team is happy to explain them to you.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

For the best results, book your auto transport 1-2 weeks in advance for standard shipments. This gives carriers enough time to plan routes and secure a spot for your vehicle.

During peak seasons—like summer months (May-August) and snowbird season (October-November and March-April)—book 3-4 weeks ahead. These busy periods see higher demand as families move, students relocate, and seasonal travelers head to warmer climates.

Need to ship sooner? We offer expedited services, though they may cost more. Last-minute bookings are possible but can limit your carrier options and pricing flexibility.

Pro tip: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in better rates and faster assignments. The more notice you give us, the more options we can provide.

The Price Lock Promise is our guarantee that the price we quote you is the price you pay. Once you book your car shipment with Sherpa Auto Transport, your rate is locked in and will not change.

Many car shipping companies quote a low price to get your business, then raise it later with hidden fees or “market adjustments.” We don’t do that. Your quoted price stays the same from booking to delivery—no surprises, no last-minute increases.

This promise gives you peace of mind and helps you budget accurately for your Missouri car shipping needs.

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket.

While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.
