What our Baytown customers say about Sherpa:
“From pick up to my front door great communication with driver the entire trip from New York to Texas. Shelby GT350 arrived in an enclosed trailer in perfect condition. Very pleased with the overall experience.”
“I had a very good experience with Sherpa and Kate! I had booked with another highly rated autotransporter in early December for a January 3rd move from Texas to San Diego, and the car had to be there no later than January 9th. Several days before the scheduled pickup, there was still no carrier selected and daily chats just kept saying they would update me when a carrier was selected.”
“I needed to transport two vehicles from Texas to Florida in a very short period of time and not only were they able to find a driver, the price was reasonable. I also must say the driver was friendly and helped out with the inspection, he also kept in touch and delivered right on time as he promised.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Baytown Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Baytown, TX. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, as fuel consumption and driver time increase.
- Transport Type: Open auto transport is the most common and affordable option for shipping cars to or from Baytown. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from weather and road debris, which can be beneficial during Gulf Coast storms.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as trucks or SUVs, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Route Accessibility: Baytown’s proximity to major highways like I-10 and Highway 146 can help reduce costs. However, shipping to more remote areas away from these routes may increase prices.
- Seasonal Factors: Car shipping prices in Baytown can fluctuate with the seasons. Summer months often see higher demand and prices, while winter may offer more competitive rates.
- Fuel Prices: As a major oil refining center, Baytown’s local fuel prices can impact shipping costs. Lower fuel prices may lead to more competitive auto transport rates.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to ship. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the overall cost.
Understanding these factors can help you plan your car shipment to or from Baytown more effectively. For a detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Baytown car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling vehicles along I-10 or I-45.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways like I-10 or SH 146. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offer a range of dates for pickup and delivery. This flexibility allows our car transport specialists to find the most cost-effective options for shipping your vehicle to or from Baytown, TX.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer. Shipping your car during off-peak times can result in lower rates and more available carriers.

Baytown, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Baytown?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Baytown. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Baytown?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Baytown?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Baytown?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Reviews from our Texas Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Texas customers:
“My daughters go to school out of state and they need their cars at school. I’ve been transporting the cars back and forth for a couple of years and the first company I used did a great job. But they changed owners when I called them. Then I booked with another place but they called me two days before the pick-up date and said that they couldn’t pick the cars up for another week. So, that was a nightmare. And then I went with another transport and they fell through. So I went online and started looking at different transport companies and then got to Sherpa. And we had them ship a Volkswagen Beetle and a Mazda 3 from New Jersey to Texas. The Sherpa representative was great. When she said she was gonna call me, she called me. And when she said she was gonna email me information, she did. Compared to the last three experiences I had, it was the best. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, thinking this could be a big pain in the neck, but it didn’t and they were really good. The quote was really high, but they were competitive. From what I’ve read, if you’re not charged enough, then a transport company will not take the car. It’s a very touch-and-go business and there’s not a lot of regulation. So if they can make more money taking another car, they’ll do it. But at the time the vehicles were delivered, the price did not fluctuate from their original quote. The vehicles were delivered a couple of hours earlier. The driver was to drive the vehicles to a Walmart parking lot right off Interstate 35 because he thought that would be the easiest unloading, but then he called and said that Walmart would not let him in the parking lot. So he was at the gas station across the highway. My daughter went by herself and she had to get two cars. We were just gonna leave the cars in the parking lot at Walmart. But he drove her back and forth across the highway to help her out, which was very nice. He was very accommodating and perfectly willing to help her even though he had other things to do. I’ll use them again to get both cars back to Texas instead of driving and hopefully they’re around.”
“Resolution response: Oct. 11, 2018 Sherpa was great, customer service was amazing. I`m in the military and I got stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. But I had a family in North Carolina and I was shipping my 2006 Chevy Colorado from Texas to North Carolina. I looked at three companies and when Sherpa started out, it was the cheapest. But the price went up to about $158 more than I was quoted. They didn’t tell me that the price could fluctuate and if you base the quality of the service on what I paid off, I paid too much. I had called Sherpa and I sat on hold for a little bit but with work, I didn’t really get to talk to anybody. $158 was a lot but it was not worth stressing over. I would advise others to be cautious with Sherpa. There wasn’t any transparency in my experience although the agent was nice when she sent me my quote. I confirmed it a week or so later and I got one email two days after I placed the request. It said they were struggling to find me a driver and that was it. They told me they found a driver about two days after that. I just waited for someone to tell me they were on their way to pick up my truck. He had given me a time when he would be there but it seemed like he always had an excuse for not being there when he said he was gonna be. It was either he was not there yet, he got caught somewhere or he stopped to get something to eat. I paid extra for the vehicle to be express but I got it about four days later than I was expecting to get it. The guy delivering my truck was giving me the runaround to get my own truck. Then they just gave me the typical excuse, “The truck bogged down.” It was up to the point where I had to call him everyday just to make sure he was making progress on delivering my truck. By the time he showed up, I had talked to him on the phone probably eight times and he was ready to get it over with too. Nonetheless, I got my trailer and it still worked. It was not messed up. In fact, it was just how I left it when I left.”
“I`ve had experiences with really shady characters `cause I moved from Oregon to Texas two years ago, and I was ripped off the first time for a couple of $1,000. I couldn`t believe how many dishonest people there are in the middle of that. They don`t want an inventory from you because if you give them an inventory then that`s everything that you wanted and they can`t give you this sham of, “Oh, we didn`t know you wanted to move that too.” I had a 1,500 piece inventory with dimensions for everything, and they didn`t want to see it. It was a very difficult experience. I heard it was the same thing with transporting cars, so I was very careful. I went to the Better Business Bureau website and the only company I was gonna use was the one that had an A rating. Sherpa was one of the several companies that were recommended on the site. I called five people, and Sherpa had the most congenial salesman. He also made me a guarantee right up front that it was gonna cost me a certain amount of money. They had to use their commission to pay for the driver `cause they couldn`t find somebody at the price they gave me. Sherpa was really awesome. Plus, they were very efficient. Every phase of the operation was documented and they sent me an email or a text on every phase. They also got me in touch with the driver and he made me aware of everything that was taking place at the pickup, the delivery and his transit. They were very professional. I was buying a car from a relative, and that relative took pictures of the truck. The driver also took pictures, and he delivered the truck as well as the pictures. I had two sets of pictures and the car was perfect. Everything was great, and I couldn`t ask for any better. I wrote a review for Sherpa`s website, and another one for the Better Business Bureau website also.”
“I only give this review 5 stars since Sherpa`s part in shipping my car out to Texas from D.C was perfect. The actual rest of the process wasn`t as pleasant. Sherpa was phenomenal. Phil who set up my shipping was entirely professional and friendly. He even talked hockey with me and was very personable. He was patient and responsive as I asked questions about the process. I set up the dates well in advance. The time came for the car to be shipped and even though they were unable to secure a driver before the scheduled pickup time, the car was eventually picked up. Again, this is not at all Sherpa`s fault as they clearly stated from the beginning they cannot guarantee pickup dates. Now comes the unpleasant part. The driver texted me saying “Call me” and I called him and he told me when he should arrive. It was fine, and despite the fact that the car didn`t come until a day later than promised, I know he was busy and doing the best he can. Having to pick up my car in a Walmart parking lot late at night would`ve been a mess had my roommate not been able to give me a ride. The front license plate was missing and after pointing it out the driver screwed it back on. No problems. I paid him in cash, did a brief inspection of the car (again late at night in a sketchy parking lot) and he was on his way. I got into my car and some stuff had been moved around, but to my surprise the back two tires were low on air. The back left was missing a cap, which lead me to believe he had let the air out to prevent rocking or something in the transport vehicle. I got them filled up the next day and the people at the shop suggested I get them looked at. I went to a tire shop and the staff, including the manager, discovered large gashes in my two rear tires. It appears they were chained down inside the vehicle and the chains had worn down and completely ruined one of my tires. They said they had never seen anything like it before. The company managed to patch one, but I had to replace the other. I sent Sherpa the photos in order to insure this did not happen to any other customers and they sent them to the trucking company so they can “decide what they want to do.” None of this is a knock on Sherpa, I just feel there needs to be more accountability for the drivers. They should explain exactly how the car is being secured and not make you meet them in a dark parking lot. Sherpa claims they vet their drivers, but this one was unacceptable. It is a shame, because Sherpa was so amazing in every way and I was very impressed at how their manager reached out to me concerning the damage. I would have used Sherpa again, but now I will just drive my car myself because I don`t know how the diver will handle my vehicle. If you have to ship your car I would absolutely recommend Sherpa, but make sure you know everything you can about how your car is being handled. I had mine fully inspected before it was picked up and the shape it arrived in was truly unacceptable. Thank you again to Sherpa for everything.”
“I am truly grateful I found Sherpa Auto Transport. This was my first time arranging transportation and needless to say it was really overwhelming. I went online and found so many companies, but just had no idea how the process even worked. I contacted some and got quotes from a lot of them, but it was just frustrating because I wasn`t convinced by any. Of course, I read reviews and spoke with a few companies. Some of which were nice and other not so much. I just couldn`t decide which company to hire. What made up my mind was that Sherpa was the only one that actually took the time to explain how the process worked. They were extremely nice and patient with me. I needed to transport two vehicles from Texas to Florida in a very short period of time and not only were they able to find a driver, the price was reasonable. I also must say the driver was friendly and helped out with the inspection, he also kept in touch and delivered right on time as he promised. Felt confidant that my vehicles would arrive safe and they did. If I ever need car transport again I will book with Sherpa and I definitely recommend them!!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Baytown, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
