When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect San Antonio Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from San Antonio. Longer distances typically mean higher prices, but San Antonio’s central location in Texas can be advantageous for many routes.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport in San Antonio. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, are about 50% more expensive and usually take longer for delivery.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to or from San Antonio due to the space they occupy and their weight.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: San Antonio’s urban setting often means lower costs compared to rural areas. The city’s proximity to major highways like I-10, I-35, and I-37 can also contribute to more competitive pricing.
- Seasonal Factors: San Antonio’s hot summers can affect car shipping prices. Peak moving seasons, typically in summer and January, may lead to higher costs due to increased demand.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to transport as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.
- Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window, such as Sherpa’s five-business-day option, can result in more cost-effective auto transport to or from San Antonio.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from San Antonio. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your San Antonio car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is typically the most cost-effective option for auto transport to or from San Antonio, TX. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed carriers.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major interstates like I-10, I-35, or I-37. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering flexibility in your pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your San Antonio car shipping needs. Consider a range of dates rather than a fixed schedule.
- Seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer or holidays when demand for auto transport services is higher. Off-peak periods may offer more competitive rates for shipping a car to or from San Antonio.

Reviews from our Texas Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Texas customers:
“I could not be happier with Sherpa. After getting quotes from three companies, I settled on Sherpa to haul my 2006 Infiniti to Texas as a gift to my Granddaughter. The prices were the same, but Sherpa had great ratings and a policy to guarantee the price. The day after I contracted with them they notified me that they had a carrier arranged. The carrier contacted me a few days later in Southern CA and picked up my car on a Tuesday and it arrived in San Antonio, TX on Thursday morning. Picked up and dropped off by the same driver. Great experience for this 75 year old Grandpa!”
“I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport for your next cross-country or long-distance move. Top-notch and professional communication, driving, and transportation. Easily the least stressful part of my move. The skilled driver was excellent and walked me through each step of the loading process. Even let me stick around and watch well after we had wrapped up taking pictures. Very cool to see the whole event from start to finish. Unloading was fast and easy. No damage, just a little expected dust. Bonus: the driver arrived ahead of time. 11/10”
“We were pressed for time in shipping our vehicle and Sherpa come through for us. It was our first experience shipping a vehicle, the driver was exceptional and we are very pleased with their service. We would seek their service again and recommend to family and friends. Thank you, Sherpa!”
“I`m blown away at the professionalism, follow-through, and speed in which Sherpa Auto Transport managed the process of shipping my car more than 1600 miles. Here`s how it went: I got online bids from 5 carriers. I called 3 of them that had the most reasonable bids. I spoke to both Josh & Shawn. They spoke to me like a friend. They offered me professional guidance, and explained the process beginning to end. I chose them because they were the best of the top 5 carriers, and coincidentally, they were the least expensive, too. They gave me a 5 day pick-up op in San Antonio, and a 5 day delivery window. With weekends, 14 possible days total. They vetted a driver immediately, he picked up the car in San Antonio the next business day, and delivered it to me in Wisconsin less then 48 hours later. I was prepared to wait 2 weeks for my new car…Sherpa had to me in perfect condition in less than 3 days!!! I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport!”
“Best experience I’ve had shipping a vehicle. Delivered what they promised. The price they quoted was fair when compared to other shippers and $300 buffer they stated they would pay if their quote came in high is what sealed the deal for me. My vehicle arrived undamaged and in great condition. I think they washed it too. As a matter of fact my vehicle arrive a day earlier than projected. Great staff at Sherpa. Great delivery driver as well.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in San Antonio, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
