What our Amarillo customers say about Sherpa:
“My niece and her husband had a really good experience with Sherpa when they moved from Phoenix to Philadelphia, so we used them when my friend moved to Amarillo and we had the same experience. We just told Sherpa what we wanted and their rep gave us a quote and set everything up. The people showed up on time and then we paid them. Everything worked as they said it was gonna work. So we`re really happy.”
“I was overall very happy with the services that Sherpa Auto Transport provided. I was trying to ship a very special car with low ground clearance from Amarillo to Austin, Texas. Other companies simply failed this task despite trying it for several days. Sherpa company provided this service in 16 hours. Highly recommended to friends and family.”
“I had a very good experience with Sherpa and Kate! I had booked with another highly rated autotransporter in early December for a January 3rd move from Texas to San Diego, and the car had to be there no later than January 9th. Several days before the scheduled pickup, there was still no carrier selected and daily chats just kept saying they would update me when a carrier was selected.”

Factors that affect Amarillo Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Amarillo, TX. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, as fuel and labor costs increase.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Amarillo. Enclosed trailers, while offering more protection, are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: Amarillo’s location along I-40 and I-27 makes it relatively accessible for car transport. However, shipping to more remote areas outside the city may increase costs.
- Seasonal Factors: Amarillo’s extreme weather conditions, including hot summers and occasional winter storms, can affect car shipping prices. Peak moving seasons, typically summer months, may also lead to higher costs.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, will generally cost more to ship to or from Amarillo due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars may require special equipment for loading, increasing the shipping cost.
- Timing and Flexibility: More flexible pickup and delivery dates can often result in lower car shipping costs to Amarillo. Rush or guaranteed delivery services typically come at a premium.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Amarillo, TX. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Amarillo car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is typically more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates, especially for standard vehicles.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-40 or US-287. This can reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Consider locations slightly outside Amarillo if it means significant savings.
- Opt for terminal-to-terminal: While Sherpa doesn’t offer this service, it’s worth noting that terminal-to-terminal shipping can sometimes be more cost-effective than door-to-door service.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to and from Amarillo may be more affordable during off-peak seasons when demand is lower.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Amarillo?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Amarillo?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Amarillo?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Amarillo
When planning car shipping to or from Amarillo, TX, it’s crucial to consider the city’s unique climate and seasonal factors. Amarillo experiences a semi-arid climate with distinct seasons, each presenting its own challenges for auto transport.
During winter months (November to February), Amarillo can face severe weather conditions, including snow and ice. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions.
- Remove any liquids from your vehicle that might freeze and expand.
In summer (June to August), Amarillo experiences hot temperatures. For car transport during these months:
- Place a sunshade under your windshield to protect the interior.
- Remove heat-sensitive items that might melt in high temperatures.
Amarillo’s peak car shipping seasons often align with local events:
- August and January see increased demand due to college students moving.
- Spring and fall experience higher traffic with snowbirds relocating.
To secure the best rates and availability for Amarillo car shipping, consider booking your auto transport a few weeks before or after these peak times. By planning around these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smoother and more cost-effective car shipping experience to or from Amarillo, TX.
Car Shipping for College Students in Amarillo, Texas

West Texas A&M University, located nearby in Canyon, requires students to purchase parking permits. These can be obtained online or at the University Police Department. During winter breaks, students can leave their vehicles on campus in designated long-term parking areas. Amarillo College offers free parking on all campuses, with no permits required. However, spaces are limited, so arrive early to secure a spot. When using auto transport services to bring your car to Amarillo, remember to check your insurance coverage, including roadside assistance, as it may differ in Texas. While snow is infrequent, occasional winter storms can occur, so consider all-season tires for your vehicle. By planning ahead and understanding these parking and weather considerations, you’ll ensure a smooth transition when shipping your car to Amarillo for your college experience.
Reviews from our Texas Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Texas customers:
“This was the first time I used car shipping service. After some research I decided to get quote from two auto transport companies. The other company was much larger than Sherpa. I ended up choosing Sherpa because they guaranteed that my car could be picked up by the deadline I had and I was impressed by their service attitude. Dillano, the sales representative, was very helpful. I booked the service at around the close of the business day, and to my surprise, they notified me at around 10 am the next morning that a driver had been secured to pick up the car later that day or the following day. When my nephew had a little trouble getting in touch with the driver to arrange the pick-up, I emailed Sherpa. Within a few minutes, the driver contacted us. Sherpa called me soon after to make sure that the driver did contact us after they reached out to him. After that everything went very smoothly. I got several emails from Sherpa during the process reminding me to examine the car carefully during pickup and drop off. The car was delivered to me without any problem. I was extremely happy with the service and would highly recommend Sherpa.”
“I am truly grateful I found Sherpa Auto Transport. This was my first time arranging transportation and needless to say it was really overwhelming. I went online and found so many companies, but just had no idea how the process even worked. I contacted some and got quotes from a lot of them, but it was just frustrating because I wasn`t convinced by any. Of course, I read reviews and spoke with a few companies. Some of which were nice and other not so much. I just couldn`t decide which company to hire. What made up my mind was that Sherpa was the only one that actually took the time to explain how the process worked. They were extremely nice and patient with me. I needed to transport two vehicles from Texas to Florida in a very short period of time and not only were they able to find a driver, the price was reasonable. I also must say the driver was friendly and helped out with the inspection, he also kept in touch and delivered right on time as he promised. Felt confidant that my vehicles would arrive safe and they did. If I ever need car transport again I will book with Sherpa and I definitely recommend them!!”
“I was very nervous and worried about shipping my son`s brand new $70,000 truck from San Antonio, Tx to Moody AFB, Ga. My son is in the military and has just been transferred to Moody from being overseas for the past seven years. After going through the top 10 transfer companies and reading the customer comments I picked the Sherpa auto transfer company. When they didn`t find the transfer driver until the day of the transfer, I was very upset until the driver showed up at my house. The driver`s name is Denard and he was very cheerful and friendly. According to my son, his truck was in perfect condition when he received it and Denard was very nice and understanding. He thanked my son for serving the country and the sacrifice he`s making. My son offered him a gratuity because he was so happy with the service Denard rendered but he wouldn`t take the extra money he tried to give to him. I was so shocked when my son told me that! In my entire life I have never met anyone who would not take a gratuity from me! Thank you Sherpa transport for finding such a wonderful driver! Thank you so much Denard for being such a compassionate person and being so caring! I`ll never forget you…I recommend Sherpa auto-transfer 1000%.”
“From the moment I contacted Sherpa Auto Transport, everything was smooth and efficient. I placed a call on Friday, had a call back by Saturday morning and transport arranged by Monday. They picked the car up in FL on Wednesday morning and we had it in San Antonio, TX on Thursday night. The driver was very responsive and courteous and his truck was immaculate. I was also extremely impressed with his driving ability. We have a sloped driveway and he maneuvered the trailer deftly right up to the garage door with literally a half inch of clearance to spare. The car arrived in the exact condition it was when it left. I have never transported a car before and to say it was a little bit daunting is an understatement. After getting the run around from another carrier, Sherpa really stepped in and made things easy. They were patient, explained the process thoroughly and answered all my questions without making me feel stupid for asking. I transported a car that was my father’s (a 1964 Porsche 356) that is very special to our family and I would trust Sherpa with it again.”
“I retained Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a SUV from TX to NJ. I opted for a flexible 5 day window pick up and open transport. They weren`t the cheapest but they weren`t the most expensive either. I went with them because they had a $100k cargo insurance and provided reimbursement for a car cleaning 2 weeks from drop off. The deposit and final payment was all relayed by credit card, which was convenient. After a deposit was made, they sent my order to dispatch to match with a driver. I made the initial order 2 weeks before pick up and was assigned a driver a few days before the start of my pick up window. The driver contacted me the night before pick up of their expected arrival time. When they arrived, we walked around the car to confer the condition of the vehicle and they took the vehicle to load onto their trailer. It took about a week and they had a local driver drop off at the destination who also walked through the condition of the car. It was nice, simple, easy, and they were communicative. Would definitely recommend and use again if necessary!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Amarillo, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
